1 Welcome

Welcome

This documentation describes how to install Transit Satellite PE.

Please refer to section 2 System Requirements on page 7 for the system
requirements for using Transit Satellite PE.
The installation itself is described in section 3 Installing Transit Satellite PE
on page 11.
Points to note after the installation are explained in section 4 After Installation on page 23.

2 System Requirements

System Requirements

The system requirements for Transit Satellite PE are as follows:

PC with Intel Pentium processor 133 MHz or higher

Main memory:
Windows 95: min. 32 MB
Windows 98/NT/2000/ME: min. 48 MB

Hard drive space: min. 80 MB

SVGA graphic card with a minimum resolution of 800 x 600 pixels
Operating system: Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 or ME
Performance may be limited if running the program on Windows NT,
Service Pack 6.

Language support
For Asian and east European languages, and languages which write
from right to left, you must be able to display and enter the characters
of these languages on your operating system.
We recommend you to also use a localized version of the operating system if working on Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT.
On Windows 2000, configure the language support of the operating system.

Memory capacity required

Ensure that you still have enough space on your hard drive after the installation and that there are no memory problems which could prevent your programs from running smoothly.

2.1 Transit Satellite PE and other versions of Transit or TermStar

Transit Satellite PE and other versions of

Transit or TermStar

Only if there is no other version of Transit or TermStar (such as the demo version of Transit) installed on your computer, can you install Transit Satellite PE.
Otherwise, the installation program will show you the following message (fig.
2-1) when starting the installation (step 2 on page 11).

In this case, cancel the installation by clicking on OK in the message window.

In order to install Transit Satellite PE, you first have to remove your last installation of Transit or TermStar.

Removing installation of Transit or TemStar

Only delete your last version of Transit if you do not need it any more
(such as the demo version). We strongly advise you against removing
versions Professional, WorkStation, Smart or ViewStation of Transit or
TermStar. These versions would then no longer be at your command.
If you have already installed the version Professional, WorkStation,
Smart or ViewStation of Transit or TermStar we strongly advise you to
install Transit Satellite PE on a different computer.

2.2 Required rights for installation

Removing the last version of Transit or TermStar:

Select the Windows menu Start | Settings | Control Panel.

Windows opens the window Control Panel.

Double click on the icon Add/Remove Programs (fig. 2-2).

Windows opens the windows Add/Remove Programs.

Select the entry Transit 3.0 or TermStar 3.0 from the list and click
on Add/Remove.

Follow the instructions to remove the last version of Transit or TermStar.

After removing the last installation of Transit or TermStar you can install
Transit Satellite PE as described in section 3 Installing Transit
Satellite PE on page 11.

2.2

Required rights for installation

You must have administrator rights for your computer in order to install Transit Satellite PE. Otherwise, the installation program will show you following
message (fig. 2-3) when starting the installation (step 2 on page 11):

In this case, cancel the installation by clicking on OK in the message window.

Login in your computer as administrator or ask your system administrator.

Installing Transit Satellite PE

You can start installing Transit Satellite PE by means of the trspe.exe

installation file.

Close applications before installing.

Close all applications before you start the installation.

How to install Transit Satellite PE:

Double-click the trspe.exe installation file to start the installation.

The installation is carried out in English with the aid of the setup program.
The installation program displays the Setup window. You are asked
whether you want to continue installing Transit Satellite PE (Fig. 3-1).

Click Yes to start the installation.

If you have already installed another version of Transit or TermStar on
your computer, following message will be displayed:
You already have installed etc.
In this case, please read section 2.1 Transit Satellite PE and other
versions of Transit or TermStar on page 8.
If you do not have administrator rights on your computer, following
message will be displayed:
You must be logged in as an administrator etc.

In this case, please read section 2.1 Transit Satellite PE and other
versions of Transit or TermStar on page 8.
The installation program displays the Welcome to etc. window with the
recommendation to close all other applications (Fig. 3-2).

Once you are sure that you have closed all other applications you have
running, continue by clicking Next.

The installation program displays the License Agreement window with

the License Agreement (Fig. 3-3).

If you accept the terms of the License Agreement, click Yes.

If you press No, you cannot continue with the installation.

The installation program displays the Select Destination Directory window where you can select the installation folder for Transit Satellite PE
(Fig. 3-3).

Accept the installation folder suggested or select a different folder.

Click Next to confirm the folder selected.

The installation program displays the Select Program Group window

where you can select the program group for Transit Satellite PE (Fig. 35).

Click Next to accept the program group suggested.

The installation program displays the Select Additional Tasks window

where you can select the dialog language used when you start Transit
Satellite PE for the first time (Fig. 3-6).

To start Transit Satellite PE with an English dialog language, select English Dialog Language and click Next to confirm the option selected.
The dialog language you select here only applies to the first time you
start Transit Satellite PE. You can change the dialog language directly in
Transit at a later stage.

The installation program displays the Ready to Install window with your
installation settings (Fig. 3-7).

If all the information is correct, run the installation by clicking Install.

The installation starts and the necessary files are unpacked. The Setup
Installing window displays the progress of the installation process (Fig.
3-8).

The installation program extracts the necessary files and then copies
them to the folder you selected.

The installation program then installs components for database access

(Fig. 3-9).

It can take a few moments to configure the database access please

wait until the installation program displays the next screen!

Message under Windows 2000

If you install Transit Satellite PE on Windows 2000, Windows 2000 displays a
window once the database access has been configured (Fig. 3-10).

This window is not an error message; it merely means that Windows 2000 has
configured the database access. Simply confirm this window by clicking OK.
Your computer is not automatically restarted, even if Windows 2000 displays
a message to the contrary in the window.

Message under Windows NT

If you install Transit Satellite PE on Windows NT, Windows NT displays a
message once the database access has been configured. This message notifies you that the control panel applications are being configured.
This window is not an error message; it merely means that Windows NT has
configured the database access. Windows NT closes this window after a few
moments.

Once the installation is completed, the installation program displays the

The installation is now complete.

You must restart your computer before starting Transit Satellite PE for
the first time. Specify whether you want to restart the computer now or
later:
To restart the computer now, select Yes, restart the computer now.
If you do not want to start the computer now, select No, I will restart
the computer later.
In this case, ensure that you restart the computer before starting
Transit Satellite PE for the first time.

Click Finish to confirm the option selected.

The installation program has installed Transit Satellite PE in the folder and
program group you specified during the installation. If you have selected the
option Yes, restart the computer now, the computer then restarts automatically.

Databases and dictionaries supplied

During the installation TermStar configures the following two databases:

TermStar
The TermStar database contains the Tutorial dictionary which is
required for the "Tutorial" project.

TermStar Received
The TermStar Received database does not contain any dictionary
and is used to store the dictionaries contained in projects received.

This database must always be available and should not be deleted or

removed from the ODBC system settings.

Please also read the following section 4 After Installation on page 23 which
contains information on starting Transit Satellite PE for the first time.

4 After Installation

After Installation

4.1

Starting Transit Satellite PE for the first

time

When you start Transit for the first time after installation, the program prompts
you to enter your name.
Transit creates a folder with your name. Transit saves all user-specific data,
such as profile settings, project data for the User scope etc. in this folder.

Start Transit Satellite PE.

Transit opens the Create New User window (Fig. 4-1).

Enter your full name in the Full name field.

4.2 Spellchecker

Transit automatically enters your name into the Data folder field (see
example in Fig. 4-1).

In this way, Transit creates a folder with your name and saves all userspecific data to this folder.

Confirm the information entered by clicking Create user.

Reason for full name

Based on the full name, your project manager can determine what you have
translated. For this reason, please ensure that the name you enter is correct.

4.2

Spellchecker

No spellcheck dictionaries are delivered with Transit Satellite PE as standard.

We offer spellcheck dictionaries for 18 languages. If you want to carry out a
spellcheck on your translation in Transit Satellite PE, please contact the Transit Sales and Marketing team to purchase the spellcheck dictionaries
required.
