XS ART COMPETITION RULES AND GUIDELINES

XS Art is a collaboration between Xavier School Art Department and XS90 Foundation Inc..
XS Art aims to support the development of talented Xaverian artists by giving them a forum
where they can showcase their talent. XS Art personifies the schools motto, Luceat Lux or
Let your light shine by challenging artists to realize their potential in becoming a visual
artist.

XS Arts goals are the following: to encourage, and develop the creativity, and artistic talent
of the Xaverian; to provide an opportunity for the exposure of artists at a young age; to
recognize the artistic excellence and honor the best Xaverian artists; and to raise awareness
and appreciation of the Xavier community for the arts.

ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to students currently enrolled in Xavier School from Grade 1 to 12,
alumni, parents who have a son currently enrolled in Xavier School, and current or former
faculty and staff. These are the five (5) divisions and their categories:
1. Grade 1 to 3 - Drawing Only
2. Grade 4 to 6 - Drawing, Watercolor, and Oil/Acrylic
3. Grade 7 to 9 - Watercolor, Oil/Acrylic, and Sculpture
4. Grade 9 to 12 - Watercolor, Oil/Acrylic, and Sculpture
5. Open (Alumni, Parent, Faculty and Staff) - Oil/Acrylic, Watercolor, and Sculpture
Note: XS Art organizers are not eligible to participate in the competition.

CATEGORIES
1.

Drawing - Entries must not exceed 18 x 24 inches with a minimum size of 10 x


14. Artist may use pencil, ball pen, charcoal, crayon, or any writing material or
combination of these.
2. Watercolor - Entries must be 14 x 20 inches and not more than 22 x 30 inches
including the frame.
3. Oil / Acrylic - Entries must not exceed 36 x 36 inches with a minimum size of 24 x
24 inches including the frame.
4. Sculpture - Entries must be freestanding, at least 1 foot in height but not more than 1.5
feet (including base) and not more than 1.5 feet on all sides. The sculpture may be
made of wood, stone, metal or any other durable material or a combination of these.
Materials with pointed objects or sharp protrusions may not be accepted.

GUIDELINES
1. Maximum of one (1) entry only for each category. There is no entry fee.
2. An entry is considered to be an artistic product of an individual. All artworks should
be the original artistic creation of participating artist and must not violate any
copyright laws.
3. Obscene and offensive entries will be rejected outright.
4. All entries must be ready for exhibition, framed (matted for drawings only), and with
a proper hanging system. No wet works allowed. No glass cover.
5. Only rectangular or square canvas will be accepted. Mixed media and collages are
not allowed.
6. All entries must be unsigned at the time of submission. Name must not appear on the
face of the entry. A label at the back of the painting should have the artists name,
and entry number.
7. Artworks must be able to withstand the rigors of handling. The XS Art organizers shall
not be responsible for any damage to the artwork sustained during handling, even as
it shall exert best efforts in handling. The artist shall hold the XS Art and/or any of its
officers or staff free and harmless for any liability/claims for loss, damage or injury to
the works while in transit or in storage.
8. Artists found to have made any misrepresentations relative to compliance with these
rules such as submitting artworks that are not originally made by the artist, shall be
automatically disqualified and banned from joining future competitions.
9. All entries must complete an Entry Form. Entries with incomplete documentation or
which are outside the allowable sizes and weight shall be automatically disqualified.
10. All winners, finalists and selected art works will be sold during the auction at the XS
Art Fest on Oct. 3, 2015. The sale value of the art works shall be donated to the
beneficiaries of XS Art (Para Kay Cher medical assistance program, XS Educational
Trust Fund and XS Art program).

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

facebook page.
2. Entry forms must be completed, signed, and submitted together with the art work to
the XS Art Dept. (Please look for Mr. L. Fuentes). For alumni and parents, you may
submit your art work and forms to the AAXS office.

DATES TO REMEMBER

The schedule for the competition is set out as follows:


1. Deadline for submission of entries is on September 18, 2015.
2. Judging date and venue will be announced on www.facebook.com/Xsartfest.
3. Winners shall be announced during the XS Art Fest on October 3, 2015.
4. Entries shall be exhibited around the school campus until October 21, 2015.
5. All entries except those acquired by the XS Art organizers must be claimed by the
artists between October 22 to 27, 2015 at the place where they submitted their
artwork. Artists who do not retrieve their artworks by the stated date are understood

to have relinquished any and all claims over the said work and any such unclaimed
artwork will be disposed of by XS Art as it may see fit.

WINNERS
1. XS Art shall have the sole prerogative to select the Board of Judges.
2. All entries will undergo preliminary screening by the judges before final judging. The
Top 10 Finalists in each division and category will be selected.
3. The decision of the Board of Judges is final. Judges may decide not to award prizes if
the entries do not meet their artistic and competition standards.
4. The XS Art organizers reserves the right to withdraw any award and prize at any
time should the participant violate any of the rules and regulations of the competition
or if the XS Art organizers deems, in any way, that granting the participant the award
will damage the reputation of Xavier School.
5. First, second, third prizes will be awarded (see prizes below). All entries shall
automatically become the property of Xavier School.
6. All entries will be judged according to the following criteria: Creativity, Technique,
Design, Originality and Impact.

1. Major Winners:

A. Xavier Excellence Award (for winners of multiple categories) - Glass Trophy


B. First Prize in Category Gold Medal and Prize
C. Second Prize in Category Silver Medal and Prize
D. Third Prize in Category Bronze Medal and Prize
2. Others:
A. Top 10 Finalists - Certificate of Merit
B. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation
C. First prize winners will get FREE pizzas for their class!
D. Winners will be featured in the 2016-2017 Xavier School Calendar.

Intellectual Property Rights

XS Art shall have perpetual intellectual property rights over prize-winning works and other
works it may acquire, including the right to use, produce or reproduce, prepare derivative
works of the designs for whatever purpose and whichever form as may be deemed fit by XS
Art to meet its objectives and goals.
