Bullies and victims behavioral context: Basis for redirection Program
ABSTRACT
This research aims to determine the dominant behavior in bullying, the
causes and a redirection program geared to address the problem.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: What is the profile of
the Grade 7 respondents in terms of Age, gender, number of sibling and
occupations of parents? What are the dominant behaviors frequently exhibited by
the bullies as perceived by the victims? What are the psychosocial causes of school
bullying as perceived by the victims of bullies? Is there significant difference
between the victims and bullies perceptions on the psychosocial cause of school
bullying? Is there a significant relationship between the causes of bullying and the
profile variables? And what redirection program will be suggested to address the
problems of school bullying?
The scope of the study is focused in determining the dominant behavior of
bullies and the determining the dominant behavior of bullies and the psychosocial
causes of bullying. The respondents are Grade 76 students of Dr. Ramon de Santos
National High school, Cuyapo Nueva Ecija , School Year 2014-2015, who are
identified by the researcher and guidance coordinator as bullies and victims. The
redirection program will focus to orientation programs, growth and wellness
program in the form of a development plan.
Based on the findings, the following conclusions are established: Of the 110
victims of bullies, majority is in the age group of 12-13, female, have 2-3 siblings
and whose parents have blue collar jobs. On the other hand, bullies are mostly
male, aged 12-13 years, have 2-3 siblings and whose parents are also categorized
as blue collar workers; the dominant behavior of the bullies as perceived by the
victim are teasing, name-calling, sometimes touching body parts, shouting, pushing
and slapping. The behavior never stops and repeatedly done; as claimed by the
bullies, they became bully as they were victim themselves, so bullying is their way
to get even with verbal abuse. On the other hand, the victims perceived that they
are sad and angry, having low-esteem caused by favoritism of their parents and
teachers, which make them feel they are outsiders and do not belong to the group;
There is a significant differences between the bullies and the victims perception on
the psychosocial causes of bullying; The bullies profile as to age , gender, number of
siblings and parents occupation have the same perception on the psychosocial
causes of bullying. On the other hand, the victims gender is significantly related to
psychosocial causes of bullying which means that male and female victims have
different perception on the causes and as to the victims age, number of siblings and
parents occupation, it implies that these profile variables are not related to their
perception on the psychosocial causes of bullying.
