3. Paper thin variability

tolerance.
The more light thats reflected from the
paper, the easier it becomes to spot shifts
in surface and shade. We intentionally set
extremely narrow tolerances for variability

Somerset is the only mill that combines
papermaking, coating and calendering into
a single continuous process. This means
a stronger paper with more bulk and fewer
splices, which is critical to high volume
web printing. The process also creates a
smoother surface that allows ink to stay
higher up on the paper for superior
hold-out and print glossdelivering rich,
arresting imagery and a completely
immersive experience.

Somerset paper is built to withstand the
demands of our continuous 4,000-feet-perminute manufacturing process without
breaking, making it the perfect solution for

Why are Sappis mills certified?

Since Sappi does not own any forests in North
America, we are fully dependent on outside
suppliers for wood. Using third party certification
programs helps to assure Sappi and our
customers that our wood suppliers are adhering
to the worlds best forestry practices. Sappis
fine paper mills are chain of custody certified in
accordance to FSC, SFI and PEFC forest
management programs. This is our commitment:
to buy wood and pulp from suppliers who
adhere to the requirements of sustainable forestry
management programs. Eco-labels developed
by credible third party certification programs,
such as those listed in this guide, offer assurance
and transparency to marketers who choose to
use them.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification

The Forest Stewardship Council mission is to promote environmentally
sound, socially beneficial and economically prosperous management
of the worlds forests.
This certification logo can be used for any project printed on McCoy,
Opus, or Flo sheets. Somerset and Flo web can be ordered as FSC
certified, pending availability of credits.
Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)
SFI-XXXXX
The Sustainable Forestry Initiatives forest management standard is

the largest single forest standard in the world. SFI on-product labels
identify both certified sourcing and Chain of Custody claims to help
consumers make responsible purchasing decisions.
These types of on-product certification logos can be used on McCoy,
Opus, Somerset and Flo.

The Programme for the Endorsement of

Forestry Certification (PEFC)
PEFC collaborates with national forest certification systems
to encourage the delivery of sustainably sourced products to
the marketplace.
PEFC certification is available upon request for Somerset, Opus web

The Green-e Marketplace program certifies that a product is
manufactured using 100% renewable electricity.

is manufactured and printed using 100% certified renewable electricity.

Although there is no broadly accepted third party certification for
recycled content assertions, all environmental marketing claims are
governed by the FTCs Green Guides. Our customers can rest
assured that Sappi stands behind the accuracy of our statements.
