Make sure that all respective power supply of Unit is ON (Control Supply and auxiliary supply
400v).
Check that the selector switch at Governor Control panel, Control panel for LCU, Syn. Mode
Panel is at Local.
Make sure that all pre conditions are satisfied for TO, EO, LO.
Referred to MMI of DCS panel and operate one by one condition
Start Generator cooling fans
Start cooling water system and check the flow is appropriate.
Start main motorize valve for lubrication system and physically confirm the oil Flow in "Main
Thrust bearing", "Gen.Guide Bearing, Counter Thrust Bearing" and "Turbine bearing" not
low/Normal.
Start High pressure Oil pump and confirm the pressure.
Exhaust Standstill seal/maintenance seal and start shaft seal & confirm the water flow is
appropriate to shaft seal
Open hydraulic lock for servomotor.
Release the brake through manual push button.
Open wicket gates through manual selector switch up to 24 % and runner opening at 14 %. As it
achieved to 100rpm let the both selector switch at null position the runner will follow the cam
curve according to wicket gates opening.
After completing the fifth step of TO.
First check the selector switch position for excitation system turn it to local and push start button
for initial field flashing. Check the system voltage (kv) and machine voltage (kv) make sure that
both voltage are near to each other. Check the voltage is greater than 95%.
Start syn. Check relay to let the GCB closed after meeting the all the condition of
synchronization.
As GCB closed make set point as per available hydrology.
Note: However this machine is not design for manual start because for start so for start of
machine manual

Start main motorize valve for lubrication system and physically confirm the oil Flow in "Main
Thrust bearing", "Gen.Guide Bearing, Counter Thrust Bearing" and "Turbine bearing" not
low/Normal.
Start cooling water system and check the flow is appropriate.
Start High pressure Oil pump and confirm the pressure.
Exhaust Standstill seal/maintenance seal and start shaft seal & confirm the water flow is
appropriate to shaft seal.
Open hydraulic lock for servomotor.

12.6 Release the brake to let the unit creep for due to leakage water (if any) from the wicket gates.

12.7 Cautiously observe the Speed, temperatures of all bearings & coolers, Oil and water leakages,
excessive vibration, abnormal noise and other similar undesirable phenomena.
12.8 Accelerate the speed by opening Wicket gates and observe the parameters as mentioned in step 12.7,
above for 10 minutes.
12.9 If any abnormality is observed in step 12.7 or 12.8, immediately stop the machine and close the
Wicket Gate. Bring the Unit to standstill, manually.
12.1 If the conditions remain normal, the unit may be started for commercial operation.
