Appendix 1 Newspaper excerpt


Pandalela Rinong is Malaysias first female athlete to win an Olympic medal. She
won the bronze medal for diving. She trained very hard and she did not give up.
Malaysians are very proud of her.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Al- Haj worked very hard to get out countrys freedom. The
work was difficult but Tunku never give up.
On 31st August 1957, Tunku became our first Prime Minister. Malaysians of all
races celebrate this special day every year. It is our national day.

Datuk Dr Jemilah Mahmood spends her life helping people of all races.
She started Mercy Malaysia in 1999. The organisation sets up relief centres to
help victims of war, flood and other disasters.
