COPRINCIAPLS’ UPDATE: The Arts Curriculum is an integral part of our school curriculum at CTMS. The Arts
Curriculum covers four strands; Visual, Music, Dance and Drama. Over the next couple of weeks our students will have
opportunities to engage in a number of activities which support the principles of the arts curriculum, including the
International Festival of the Arts, Gallery visits and piano performance. The capacity to think creatively is central to
problem solving and innovation. ‘The arts helps students to live, learn work and contribute as active members of their
communities and develops capabilities for living and lifelong learning’ (NZ Arts Curriculum).
NOTICES:
International Festival of the Arts: This week our older students will be attending our first International Arts Festival
performance „Inside Out‟ at the Opera House on Thursday at 7:30pm. Jenny and Brigid will be supervising the group. An
information sheet outlining the arrangements for this evening has been sent home to those families whose children are
attending. We currently have 8 more tickets available for any Years 4 – 8 children.
Library: Due to our festival programme we will be attending the Library again on Monday. The school will be attending an Arts
Festival performance „Dirty Beasts‟ the following Monday morning at 10:30am at the Town Hall, departing school at 9:45 am.
City Gallery Visits: City Gallery workshop next week on 12 March. The gallery requires a minimum parent help ratio of 1
parent to 8 children (we need 2 parents per Homegroup). Kauri and Kowhai 10am-11am, Kahikatea 11:15 am-12:15pm. All students
will be viewing the current exhibition and taking part in a sketching activity.
Mozart Young Academy: Jonathan Crehan has approached CTMS with a view to offering piano lessons at school, during school
hours. Jonathan comes with a Bachelor of Music (first class honours) and is currently teaching music and composition at a
number of Wellington Schools including Samuel Marsden College. He will be giving a workshop/performance to CTMS students
and parents on Thursday 4 March at 9 a.m. Please come along and hear this talented musician and consider lessons for your
child/children!
Assessment Evening/Strategic Plan Update: A reminder that the staff and Board of Trustees are holding an information
evening 7.30 – 8.30 p.m. on Thursday 11 March. Staff will be talking about assessment at CTMS and giving an update on
National Standards. The BOT will be presenting information about the 2010 Strategic Plan.
Goal Setting Interviews: Goal Setting Interviews are scheduled for the last week of the term on Monday 29 March and
Tuesday 30 March.
ICT Agreement: As part of our Technology learning this term the Years 1-6 have been involved in rewriting the CTMS ICT
Agreement. We hope the statements on this document are more easily understood by your child. Please review the agreement
with your child and return to school.
Long Term Plan: Please see attached.
PTA:
New Parents Afternoon Tea: The PTA are holding an afternoon tea for new parents at 3pm in the staff room on Thursday 4
March.
Easter Raffle: PTA are holding an Easter Raffle. Tickets will be sent home with your child on Monday.
