Instructions for Professional/Technical Academic Exceptions

COURSE WAIVER (WV), SUBSTITUTION (SB), NATIONALLY ACCREDITED POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS (NA) &
CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION (CC)
1. The student fills out the Academic Exceptions form with Faculty Coordinator.
2. All supporting documentation is attached to Academic Exceptions form and turned in to ARRC by the faculty coordinator.
3. Courses from other colleges being substituted cannot be processed until official transcripts have arrived at ARRC.
4. Courses from NSCC being substituted cannot be processed until those courses have been successfully completed.
WORK EXPERIENCE (WE) fee pay code EX
1. The student fills out the Academic Exceptions form and the Work Experience/Credit by Exam Payment form with Faculty Coordinator.
2. The student pays $39.06 per course at the Cashiers Office.
3. The Cashier stamps the Work Experience/Credit by Exam Payment form PAID and the student returns it to the faculty coordinator to be submitted
with the rest of the packet.
4. All supporting documentation is attached to the Academic Exceptions form and turned in to ARRC by the faculty coordinator.
5. A maximum of 25% of the required credits in any program of study may come from Work Experience.
CREDIT BY EXAM (CE) fee pay code ET
(Student must have completed a minimum of 9 residence credits with a quarterly GPA of 2.0 or higher.)
If you are petitioning for Credit by Exam for ENG 101 or 102, please see the English Coordinator in the Humanities division for special
instructions. All others please follow the instructions below:
1. The student checks with the appropriate division to determine if an exam is available for the course.
2. If an exam exists, the appropriate division will set up an exam time and notify the student. The student & Faculty Coordinator fill out the Academic
Exceptions form.
3. The student pays the $66.85 per credit charge at the Cashiers Office. The $66.85 per credit charge is in addition to tuition and fees paid for all other
regular college enrollment.
4. The Cashier stamps the Work Experience/Credit by Exam form PAID.
5. Students petitioning for ENG 101 or 102 return the form to the Testing Office to where the exam is taken. All others return the form to the division
facilitating the exam.
6. Exam is graded and credit values assessed by the individual division or department.
7. Instructor/Dean completes the Academic Exceptions form (Deans signature required) and forwards that and the stamped Work Experience/Credit by
Exam form to ARRC.
8. A maximum of 25% of the required credits in any program of study may come from Credit by Exam.
NOTE:
WE, CE, NA, or CC credit is NOT considered residence credit. Courses substituted from another college also will not be considered
residence credit.
Students must successfully complete one quarter at NSCC before any academic exception requests can be processed.
Faculty Coordinators will submit the form directly to the ARRC office. A separate form (Work Experience/Credit by Exam Payment
form) will be given to the student to take to the Cashier for Work Experience and Credit by Exam.
