1. Apple Inc. decides to make iTunes freely available in
unlimited quantities.
a. Does Apples decision change the incentives that people
face? In what ways? Explain.
This Apples decision completely changes the incentives in some
ways. In first place, all the users of an Apple product surely will
begin to use iTunes as their primary music app and to download all
their favorite music. As an other result of this decision to make
iTunes freely, would be an incentive for all the people who hasnt
have an Apple product, to buy one, because it means that they can
have all the music they want for free.
b. Is Apples decision an example of a microeconomic or a
macroeconomic issue?
This decision is a clear example of a microeconomic issue because
it only affects the people who have a product of Apple, like an
iPhone, iPad, or iWhatever, and an iTunes account, or the ones that
are considering acquiring one of these products. Its not a decision
that impacts a global economy directly.
2.

Which of the following pairs do not match?

a. Labor and wages
b. Land and rent
c. Entrepreneurship and profit
d. Capital and profit
The pair that doesnt match is the option d., because when we
are talking about capital, we mean the tools, machines or
something that its used to produce a good or a benefit. And the
profits belong to the entrepreneurship category.

3. Explain if McDonalds move into salads concerns selfinterest, social interest or both.
It concerns both, because when the directives of the company
decided to move into salads they were looking to sell more food to
a new category of an increasing number of people who are now
decided to eat better, but in this effort to sell more, they are

promoting too a better way to eat healthier and they are changing
the thousands calories burgers to salads.
4. You plan a major adventure trip for the summer. You wont
be able to take your usual summer job that pays $6,000, and
you wont be able to live at home for free. The cost of your
travel on the trip will be $3,000, film and videotape will cost you
$200, and your food will cost $1,400. What is the opportunity
cost of taking this trip?
The opportunity cost of taking this trip is the $6, 000 from the
summer job that I wont be able to take.
5.
The university has built a new parking garage. There is
always an available parking spot, but it costs $1 per day. Before
the new garage was built, it usually took 15 minutes of cruising
to find a parking space. Compare the opportunity cost of parking
in the new garage with that in the old parking lot. Which is less
costly and by how much?
Paying $1 per day is the less costly option for me, because 15
minutes of my time are more worthy than a dollar. I would rather
pay one dollar than wait 15 minutes and having the chance to be
late.
6.
