ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW


ACCEPTABLE USE: Failure to comply with HCS Acceptable Use Policy and
policies listed in the Student Rights and ResponsibiliBes Handbook may
result in the loss of privilege to take the issued iPad home or use of
personal iPads in general.

PRIVACY: iPads are the property of Hampton City Schools and as a
result may be seized and reviewed at any Bme. The student should have
NO expecta.on of privacy of materials found on an issued iPad.

ELECTRONIC RECORDINGS: Electronic recordings obtained with the iPad
may NOT be shared or rebroadcasted for any reason by the student
without permission. Any recordings done without the knowledge or
consent of the person(s) being recorded will be subject to State and
Federal Laws, reported to proper authoriBes; and, may result in criminal
prosecuBon.
PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY AT HOME: Talk with your child about the
appropriate treatment and care of this device, use of the internet, and,
being a good ciBzen.

Students are responsible for damage to iPads at home
and at school.

Parents /Legal guardian must sign the HCS iPad
agreement form before being issued a device.

All iPad serial numbers are registered with Apple and if
device is reported stolen, it will be deacBvated.

Do not call Apple if you need tech support, contact
your school.

Every student has an HCS Gmail account


which allows them to send emails and use
features associated with Google Drive


This email account provides them the
opportunity to communicate and
collaborate with teachers and peers.

What can I do as a parent to help my child
embrace these opportuni.es?

Encourage your child to frequently login to
Gmail.

Review our online Google for EducaBon
class to help your child master using
Google Docs and Slides as homework and
project resources.

iPad Insurance A True Investment


Students/parents will be
responsible for damage EVEN

SCHOOL.
Insurance is not required, but
it is HIGHLY recommended.
Insurance is from the date of
purchase unBl the end of
school in June.
Insurance must be purchased
BEFORE A CLAIM IS MADE.
The annual cost is $40 per
iPad per year. $20 for the
second student and $10 for
every student therea[er.

Expected Changes to the iPad Program


School-managed Apple IDs
Eliminated student access to the app store.
Removal of iMessenger and FaceTime
HCS IT Department will push out desired
apps to students.

Google Apps, Gmail, and web browsing.

Student Newsle_er

Mailed the week of August 10th, the newsle`er provided


informaBon about the division-wide iPAD program; how iPADs
will be used in the classroom; link to HCS webpage for
addiBonal informaBon; and, dates for iPAD distribuBon to
students.

Back to School Night

Parents and students will parBcipate in an informaBve session


regarding the policies for iPADs. At the conclusion of the
presentaBon, parents will receive a yer for the two dates that
iPADs will be distributed.

Save the Date Cards

Save the Date cards will be mailed home the rst week of
school (week of September 7th).

MulBple messages will be sent out prior to distribuBon dates of


September 19th and September 26th.

LMS Website & Twi_er

Flyer will be posted on the LMS website and a link will


be created directly to the HCS website icon.

Implementa.on/Use

Throughout the school year, pictures of students, sta, and


teachers using iPADs will be posted on the LMS website and
submi`ed to the HCS Website and Facebook pages. This is also
in alignment with our school-wide focus of Curriculum
InstrucBon Assessment.

DESCRIPTION
Parents and students will be provided with the following upon entry at the
registraBon table:
o Apple iPAD Facilitator InformaBon Sheet
o If a student is under the age of 13 and the parent does NOT have an email
address, the Apple iPAD Facilitator and other sta will help the parent to set
up a free gmail.com account once they pick up their iPAD (see below).

Parents and students will be directed to a specic table by alpha (A D; E G; H
L; M R; and, S Z). They will be provided with a folder which will include the
following:
o iPAD Agreement Form (to be signed and completed on site)
o Internet Safety Contract (to be signed and completed on site)
o HCS iPAD Parent Guide 1516
o General Rules for iPADs
o Internet Safety FAQs and Resources for Parents
o iPAD Policies (insurance, security, lost/stolen, etc.)
Once the parent and student complete the agreement form and safety contract,
the student will be issued an iPAD.

Parents and students will report to another staBon where insurance, should they
choose to purchase it, can be paid and receipt given.

InformaBon Literacy Sta will receive parents and students to provide a brief
training of how to. This will include special features of the iPAD, turning it
o/on; steps on acBvaBng iCLOUD; and, descripBon of some of the HCS apps that
students will have access to. A`endance is opBonal.
