Infoblox IP Address Management

What is Infoblox IPAM?
Infoblox IP address management (IPAM)
manages the allocation, administration,
reporting and tracking of public and private IP
space, IP devices and associated data.
Seamlessly integrated with both Infoblox DNS,
DHCP and with Microsoft DNS/DHCP servers
it leverages the Infoblox Grid architecture
offering the most advanced, highly available,
fault tolerant and scalable solution in the world.
Networking Problems without IPAM
Microsoft Servers do not include
effective IPAM tools for DNS and DHCP
Repetitive, manual processes
Scaling challenge for most large,
multi-server enterprises
Challenges of increasing complexity
User mobility, growth of IP devices
New technology like VoIP, IPv6, cloud,
DNSSEC and virtualization
Operational risks
Hard to find and resolve problems
Over dependence on IT to manage
complexity and troubleshoot issues
No effective auditing
Elevator Pitch
Infobloxs IPAM is at the heart of Infoblox DNS
DHCP and IPAM (DDI) helping ensure that
your network the DNS, DHCP and other core
services are always available. It automates
and simplifies IP address management,
thereby reducing network operating costs and
eliminating configuration errors and associated
downtime. By enabling distributed control and
unified management of DNS, DHCP and IP

address data, IP addresses can be served in a

consistent, automated, and error-free manner.

What Key Business Issues are Addressed?

Automate tasks: With the integration of DNS,
DHCP and IPAM in a single appliance
Secure Network Services: Support for
DNSSEC, secure connections among Infoblox
appliances and hardened OS without root
access
IPAM for Virtualization: Discovers virtual
machines, gets detailed VM information, and
groups them automatically using Smart Folders
Next Gen IP Networking: Full support for IPv6
& protocols such as DNSv6, DHCPv6 & DNS64
IPAM for Microsoft: Central management of
both Infoblox and Microsoft DNS and DHCP
Always On Network Services: The
deployment of an Infoblox Grid enables an
always-on network through its completely
redundant and highly scalable architecture

on your network
Extensive reporting

What is IPAM for Microsoft?

As a Microsoft Gold Partner, Infoblox
developed IPAM for Microsoft to enable
seamlessly management of Microsoft DNS and
DHCP services as well as Infoblox appliances
centrally. IPAM for Microsoft delivers what is
missing in Microsoft spreadsheets and scripts
powerful and centralized IP address
management and role-based access control,
without requiring any changes to be made to a
Microsoft environment. It requires no additional
software to be installed on any of the Microsoft
DNS/DHCP servers or Windows host, and
causes no impact since it uses Remote
Procedure Calls (RPC) via Distributed
Component Object Model (DCOM), which is the
same method used by Microsoft to manage
their DNS/DHCP via the Microsoft Management
Console (MMC) . This approach leads to easier
deployment and guarantees tight integration
with Microsoft.

Qualifying Business Questions:

What are your concerns about IP growth
and management of this growth?
What is the impact to you & your company
in the event of a DNS/DHCP failure?
Do you have more than one person
involved in the management and allocation
of IP addresses in your network?
Qualifying Technical Questions:
How many IP addresses do you manage?
How are you tracking & managing your IP
addresses today?
How are spreadsheets and scripts working
for you? Can I show you a solution that is
easier and can save you time?
Are you planning or looking towards IPv6?
What steps do you take to assign an IP and
how long does it take? Is this different for
virtual machines? If so, how?
What are you using for DNS and DHCP?
How do you handle failure in core network
services?
How to Recognize a Prospect
Complex IP configuration and monitoring
Lack of central DNS and DHCP mgmt.
Heterogeneous DNS & DHCP environment
Uses spreadsheets for network inventory
and/or IP address and subnet information

DNS and or DHCP availability, scalability &

performance concerns
Staff is stretched thin between strategic /
new projects and repetitive/daily tasks
Going through a merger / acquisition
Data center consolidation
Security and/or compliance requirements
for tracking connected end-devices and
historical information to when theyve been
connected
They use > 5 Microsoft DNS/DHCP servers

Objection Handling
Objection: I have no budget for this project
Response: Have you had a DNS/DHCP
outage recently, and how much would an
outage cost your organization? Can I run an
ROI report for you to show you the differences?
Objection: I already do this today (manually or
scripts).
Response: Infoblox focuses on providing
automation for daily tasks that consume a lot of
time and are error prone. The vast majority of
users today would rather focus on other critical
projects or tasks than manually managing all
devices independently.
Objection: IPAM isnt a priority today.
Response: Many of our customers used to be
so busy with troubleshooting and manual
processes they never had time for new projects
or priorities. Infoblox simplifies and automates
tedious steps improving reliability of your
network while freeing time for more strategic
activities.
