Clutchpressurecircuit
ThePowershiftAG150andAG250tractortransmissionsarefittedwiththeirownGerotortype
toothedrotorhydraulicpumpmountedattherearofthetransmission.Thepumpisdrivenatengine
speedbythefirststageshaft.Whentheengineisrunningthepumpsuppliesthepressureandflow
ratetoactivatetheclutchesandlubricatethetransmission.Theoilissuckedthroughastrainer
locatedintheintermediatehousing.Thepumpdischargesoilthroughthegearboxfilterandby
prioritysuppliestheclutchsolenoidvalvesandthepressureregulatingvalve.
Oncethenecessarypressureandflowratefortheclutchsupplyissupplied,thepressure
regulatingvalveopens.Itmaintainstheoperatingpressureintheclutches.Threesolenoidsare
thensimultaneouslyactivatedtoengagethethreeclutchesandtransmitthepowerfromtheengine
tothetransmission.Toobtainthevariousspeeds,itispossibletoactivateacombinationofany
threeoftheninesolenoids.Oncetherequiredvolumeofoiltoengagetheclutchesisattainedand
thepressureregulatingvalveisopen,theoilflowsthroughthelubricatingcircuitviathepressure
regulatingvalveandthethermostaticvalve.
Proportionalsolenoidvalves
Theoilreacheseachextremityoftheproportionalsolenoidvalvesandthevolumeofoilthat
supplieseachclutchviaasolenoidvalveiscontrolledatclutchlevelbyanelectricalsignalemitted
bythetransmissioncalculator(TC),thismodulatesthegearchanges.Eachsolenoidvalveislinked
totheoilreturn.WhentheTCcutsthesupplytothesolenoidvalve,theoilcontainedintheclutch
returnstothetank.

Afterhavingsuppliedtheclutches,theoilsuppliedbythepumppassesthroughtheoilcooler,or
bypassesitviathethermostaticvalve,andisusedtolubricatetheclutches.Thecooledlubricating
oilisthussuppliedtothegearboxtolubricatetheshafts,clutchesandbearings.Alltheoilsupplied
tothebearingsismeteredbyacalibratedportlocatedintheboreofthebearingsandbythree
channelsdrilledintheclutchshafts.Whenthepumpprovidessufficientoilforthelubricating
circuit,thepressurerisesuntilthereliefvalveopensandtheexcessreturnstothetank.

ComingfromtheGerotorpump,theoilenterstheheadofthefilterunit.Itflowsfromtheoutside
ofthefilterelementtotheinside.Filteredoilfromthecentreofthefilterelementthenflowsout
throughaseparatechannelintheheadofthefilterunittosupplythetransmission.Ifthefilteris
blocked,abypassvalveopensandchannelsnonfilteredoiltothelubricatingcircuit.Thebypass
valveoperatesonthepressuredifferentialexistingbetweenthefilteredoilandnonfilteredoil.The
differentialpressureiscontrolledbythebypassvalvespring.
Oilfilteredunderpressureflowsintothechambercontainingthebypassvalvespringandenables
thespringtokeepthevalveclosed.Ifthefilterbecomesblocked,thepressureontheoutsideof
thefilterelementincreaseswhileitdropsinthecentreofthefilterelement.Thepressureoftheoil
ontheoutsideofthefilterelementthenexceedsthatofthebypassvalvespringandthevalve
thereforeopens.Thebypassvalveopenswhenthepressuredifferentialequals3.13.7bar(45
54psi).

TheAG150andAG250tractortransmissionshaveafullyintegratedhydrauliccircuit.Thepump(4)
islocatedattherearofthetransmission.Itisdrivenbythefirststageshaftthatrunsatengine
speed.TheGerotorpumphastwoinletportsinordertoreducevibrationwithinthehydraulic
circuit.Itcanberemovedbyuncouplingthetractorbetweenthegearboxandtheintermediate
housing.Theinletandoutletportsofthepumparefixedtotherearhousingofthegearboxand
oiltightnessisprovidedbyO'rings.Thesuctionanddischargechannelsaremouldedintotherear
housingofthegearbox.Therighthandchannelsaresuctionandthelefthandchannelsare
discharge.
Duringrepairoperations,checkpumpwearbetweentheexternalbushandthehousing,axial
clearanceandthesplines.Replacethepumpifitisdamaged.Thepressureregulatingvalve(11)
controlsthepressureinthecircuitusedtoactivatetheclutches.Theconditionoftheregulating
valvecanbedeterminedbycarryingoutapressuretest.Thepressuremustbeuniformacrossthe
wholeenginespeedrange,thoughitmayvaryslightly.Thepressuremustbebetween17.2and19
bars.
Thepressuretestcanbecarriedoutbyremovingthewideplug(28).UsetheATP30181service
toolinawideplugontheforwardhousing.Thepressureregulatingvalvehastheformofa
repairablecartridgeanditmustbecheckedforanydeposits,scratchesorfrictionpoints.Replace
theO"ringsonthecartridgeeachtimethatitisremovedfromthetractortransmission.
TheGerotorpumpisboltedtotherearhousingofthegearbox.Itcanberemovedbytakingoutthe
sixretainingboltsafteruncouplingthetractorbetweenthegearboxandthecentrehousing.
Removethetwoboltsthatholdtogetherthepumpbodyandcoverandseparatethehalves.
Measurementofwearonpumpcomponents
Maximumacceptablewearbetweentheexternalrimofthebushandthehousing:0.51mm.
Betweenthetipoftheinternalstarandtheexternalbush:0.18mm.
Lateralclearanceoftwocomponentsinrelationtothehousing:0.1mm.Examinethesurface
conditionaceofthetwocomponents.Replacethemwherenecessary.Maintaintherelative
positionsofcomponentsinrelationtoeachother,inordertoavoidproducingnewwearareasdue
toaccidentaloffset.
Reassemblethepumpandfastenthecoverontothebodywiththetwobolts.Tightentoatorqueof

Nm.LubricatethepumpwithtransmissionoilandfitthetwoO'ringssmearedwithmisciblegrease
intothepumpbody.Installthepumpontotherearhousingofthegearbox.Fixitinplacewiththe
sixboltsremovedpreviously.Tightentheboltstoatorqueof24Nm.
Clutchcircuit
Theoilflowintheclutchpistonchamberiscontrolledbytheproportionalsolenoidvalves(12)and
theythemselvesarecontrolledbythetransmissioncontrolunit(TC).Theoilismeteredinthe
clutchpistonsbytheproportionalsolenoidvalves,inrelationtotheelectricalsignalreceivedby
transmissioncontrol.Thehydraulicspoolsoftheproportionalsolenoidvalvescannotberepaired,
exceptfortheO'ringsandthesolenoid.Thesolenoidisfixedtothespoolbyanaluminiumnut(56)
andmustdbetightenedtoatorqueof1.72.8Nmmaximum.
Eachclutchisfittedwithacontrolchannellocatednearthesolenoidvalveconcerned.Eachcontrol
channelisidentifiedbyanumberorlettermouldedintothehousingandcorrespondingtothe
clutch.Allthechannelsareclosedbyasmall7/16plug.
UseATP30182adaptorstocheckthepressure.Tocorrectlycarryoutacheckonagearratio,
checkthepressureinallthreeclutchesconcernedatthesametime.
Lubricatingcircuit
ThegearboxlubricatingoilissuppliedbytheGerotorpumpviathepressureregulatingvalve.
Lubricatingoilpressureismaintainedbythepumpflowandbythelubricatingreliefvalve.The
lubricatingreliefvalve(10)islocatedatthebottomofthethreadedportprovidedfortheoilcooler
connectoronthelefthandsideofthetransmission.Thelubricatingoilsupplieseachtransmission
shaft,lubricatestheclutchplates,shaftsandbearings.
Totestthelubricatingpressure,usetestconnectorATP30183.Screwthetestconnectorintoone
ofthemediumsizedplugs(27).Thelubricatingreliefvalve(10)maybereplacedeitherbyscrew
tappingtheinteriorofthevalveandremovingitwiththeaidofaninertiaextractor,orwhenthe
gearboxisdisassembledbydrivingitoutfromtheinteriorusingasuitablefixture.Adrilled
apertureintheshaftprovideslubricationfortheforwardbearingwhileaportattheendofthe
shaftprovideslubricationfortherearbearing.
