The AIA/LA TAP Inaugural event for 2010 - A Panel Discussion

“IDP, BIM & IPD: WTF?” (What’s The Future?)
Thursday, April 1, 2010 Graphic Facilitation by Doors open at 6:30pm, event starts at 7pm
Join our panelists for a rousing discussion on the intersection of BIM technologies on the future
direction of the Architectural profession. With a selection of panelists from across the design and
construction spectrum, this moderated panel discussion will provoke spirited debate on such
questions as:
●“Is there room in the future of the profession for the sole practicioner or will the nature
of BIM collaboration demand that all projects over a given size be done by large corporations?”
●“Will the Architectural graduate of 2020 have any other option than to work for a vertically
integrated General Contracting firm as a ‘staff Architect’ as a result of the profession’s ceding of
the profession’s traditional ‘Master Builder’ responsibilities over the years?”
●“How will the recently completed AIA document E202-2008 (the ‘BIM Protocols’) affect the
potentially litigious question of ‘who owns the model’ over the next decade?”
●“How does the Intern Development Program address the issues that firms typically have with
students graduating from Universities that emphasize design to the exclusion of ‘real-world’
topics like - knowing the CSI specification system; how to detail a waterproof joint; and how to
lay out a set of working ‘drawings’ with a BIM tool?”
The panelists will be working from their individual biases and experience but we welcome
with apologies to William Blake and questions from the audience - include your questions when you RSVP - space is free but limited.
