Independently managed the planning and on-site activity of events, including four Summer Institutes

Managed and created content for Departmental website and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter,

Created stories for UW Health Sciences NewsBeat and published four newspaper articles about
departmental research in local and national news outlets.

coordinate and implement initiatives that promote interest in STEM amongst K-12 and college
students, and to improve public engagement with science.
Co-manage team of 15 volunteers.

Co-coordinated networking events for Puerto Rican scientists at professional meetings.
Co-created and co-organize biannual professional development symposia for young scientists in

Co-organized one-day meeting attended by stakeholders in education, government and non-profit to
discuss challenges and opportunities in K-12 STEM Education in Puerto Rico.
Helped conceive and undertake formal education pilot study to increase elementary and middle
school students interest in science.
Led a workshop for 35 K-9 teachers about the use of contextualized science education tools to
augment and complement science teaching.
Led two science communication workshops to train students and scientists on effective
communication skills for public outreach and professional development.
Manage and create content for Ciencia Puerto Ricos online platform and social media accounts (i.e.
Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn).

over 60 scientists on writing of lay science articles for publication with media partners and edited
over 230 unique titles to date (published by multiple outlets), for overall total of 540 articles.
Co-created and edited Ciencia 26.7 C, the science section for digital magazine www.80grados.net.
Co-created, co-edited and contributing author for Ciencia Boricua! book, an anthology of culturallyrelevant multidisciplinary science essays. Co-managed call for articles and relationship with
publisher.
