Introduction: Our support your success

hank you for your interest in Skills Guernsey.

The key to the continuing success of
Guernseys economy is the investment
we make in our people. As a predominantly
knowledged based economy, Guernsey
must be able to deliver world-class skills and
performance. In this regard, and in order to
sustain our prosperity across industries, Skills
Guernsey has been established to meet the
demands required of our extensively skilled
workforce.
Skills Guernsey is an umbrella organisation
that coordinates training and developmental
opportunities that are available in both the
public and private sector helping to enable
the local business community to achieve a
competitive edge in the global market place.
Skills Guernsey collates and coordinates high
quality and value-for-money solutions, tailored
to your specific needs to enhance your future
capability, capacity and flexibility.
Skills Guernsey is entering a new era of action
and delivery. I am proud to be appointed the
new Chair of Skills Guernsey Implementation
Group. I strongly believe engagement is a
perennial concern in the field of education and
training. We need to ensure that the workforce
of the future develops skills to meet the needs
of emerging industries and technologies and
this requires involvement of employers both in
delivering practical work-placements and in
feeding into the design and content of courses.

The results of the Skills Guernsey survey and

extensive industry forums which were organised
by the Guernsey College of FE over 2014 and
2015 demonstrate that we need to do more. At
Skills Guernsey we want to ensure that Guernsey
maximises the opportunities to make and
create a more responsive system. Employers
are keen to play an increasingly central role
both in articulating their workforce needs and
skills gaps, and in the design and delivery of
qualifications and training opportunities. Skills
Guernsey aims to provide a cohesive and
efficient offer in terms of skills development for
businesses. We are keen to address the short,
medium and long term gaps that are identified
through various sources of research and
analysis.
This directory lists the range of services that are
available under the banner of Skills Guernsey
from island providers. The list is not exhaustive
and a full list of services can be found on the
Skills Guernsey website
(www.gov.gg/skillsguernsey). If you are not
able to find what you are looking for, please
contact us (email: skillsguernsey@gov.gg). Our
ethos at Skills Guernsey Implementation Group
is the answer is yes. Whats the question? With
a strong commitment from leading on-island,
public and private training providers, we remain
confident that our support will lead to your
success. Please keep in touch.

What is Skills Guernsey?

How does it work?

The Skills Guernsey initiative aims to make

the development of the locally available skills
and training programmes more relevant and
responsive to employers and the business
communitys needs.
Skills Guernsey works closely with all
training providers and makes available
a comprehensive range of high quality

Skills Guernsey recognises that the future of
skills development in the Bailiwick of Guernsey
lies in forging links with a range of partners
across the commercial, public and third
sectors. With the various stakeholders working
in a collaborative way, Skills Guernsey can
create innovative new models for delivering
education and training fit for promoting
knowledge transfer and development of skills.

Skills Guernsey supports and guides you to

the best possible solution for your organisation.
Our principal objective is to build a genuine
and lasting partnership between the business
community and education providers on or off
island in order to support your future growth and
success. At the same time we aim to bring cutting
edge knowledge back to the strategic planning
process and investment in development of training
opportunities for the future.

Public Speaking with Confidence

(SG_JEC004).

Course Provider:
Womens Development Forum
Description of course:
If you want to climb the career ladder it is vital to
establish your professional presence. It will give
you a sense of gravitas, and let people know you
are a key player in the game of success. Your
presence comes from both your communication
and your non-verbal skills. It is the way you hold
yourself, the way you command attention for your
ideas and what people say about you when you
are not in the room. In this workshop we will look
at the different aspects that contribute to creating
a positive professional impact and a presence
that others will remember for the right reasons. The
course will be run as an experiential workshop in
a small group setting of 8 - 14, and will focus on
building practical strategies to help you to create
the presence and impact that is right for you.

At some point in our careers we will be required
to speak to groups. Whether it is at a team

overcome her own fear of public speaking
to launch WDF, Michelle Johansen has since
coached many people through their own
individual terror points. In this half-day course
we will concentrate on creating a safe space
for delegates to practise in a small group setting
and focus on building practical strategies to turn
public speaking from a potential career derailer
into a career enhancer.
