Powering On
The first time the power button is pressed after a battery is plugged in it will complete a
Warm Boot, starting with a white LXE screen, then installing and loading the [redacted]
application.
Suspend Mode
If the power button is pressed when the terminal is active or idle, it will enter Suspend
Mode, turning the radio and screen off. If it is pressed while in Suspend Mode, it will
turn the screen and radio back on.
Powering Off
You cannot turn the terminal completely off without removing the battery. Pressing the
power button will only put the terminal in Suspend Mode.
Resetting the Terminal
Often, after changing settings (power settings, wireless settings, etc) it is necessary to
reset the terminal in order for the changes to take effect. If you ever make a change and
it is not persisting, it is recommended that you reset the terminal and check to see if
that fixes the problem.
If you need to reset the terminal, hold the power button down for approximately 15
seconds, until you see the screen go solid white. Once the screen is white, release the
power button and the terminal will complete a Warm Boot.
The HX2 terminal uses a tethered battery as its primary power source. If that battery
becomes completely discharged, a fully charged, internal backup battery will last for up
to 15 minutes. If both the tethered and backup batteries become completely
discharged, the terminal is at risk of losing data, so you want to avoid that situation if at
all possible.
Storing Terminals
Terminals should be stored at the end of the day in Suspend Mode with the tethered
battery attached. When terminals are retrieved in the morning, tethered batteries
should be exchanged for a fresh, fully charged battery. The backup battery can only be
recharged by placing the terminal in a charging cradle.
Indicator Lights
The light on the terminal indicates battery state:
· A blinking green light means that the terminal will enter idle mode when the
timer expires (radio is still active, screen goes blank).
· No light at all means that the terminal is in Suspend Mode. If the light is off and
the power button does not turn the terminal back on, both the tethered and
backup batteries have been fully discharged.
· A solid red light means that the tethered battery is getting low.
· A blinking red light indicates that the terminal is running on the backup battery.
If you see a blinking red light, you need to change your tethered battery as soon
as possible to avoid data loss.
Changing the battery involves unplugging the tether cord from the battery (but not the
terminal), removing the battery from the case, and replacing it with a fresh, fully‐
charged battery. After plugging the new battery in, press the power button and the
terminal will reset.
When you look at the keypad, you will notice that most of the keys have orange and
blue boxes above them with different characters in each box. You’ll also notice that
many of the keys have both white and green text on them. This is because each key has
a number of possible outputs and functions, depending on the key sequence you use.
Underneath the screen are 3 colored keys: green, orange, and blue. Pressing one of the
colored keys before pressing another key will change the output of that key to the
character or function indicated in its color on the key.
White Functions
If no color key is pressed before an output key is pressed, the output from pressing that
key will be whatever the white function represented on the key is. Ex. Pressing the ‘1’
key will result in a ‘1’ on the screen.
Orange Functions
If the orange key is pressed before an output key is pressed, the output from pressing
that key will be whatever the orange function represented over the key is. Ex. Pressing
the ‘1’ key will result in an ‘a’ on the screen.
Blue Functions
If the blue key is pressed before an output key is pressed, the output from pressing that
key will be whatever the blue function represented over the key is. Ex. Pressing the ‘1’
key will result in a ‘b’ on the screen.
Green Functions
If the green key is pressed before an output key is pressed, the output from pressing
that key will be whatever the green function represented on the key is. Ex. Pressing the
‘BKSP’ key will result in a space.
The keypad on the terminal does not allow for the entry of all possible and sometimes
necessary characters. If you need to enter a character that is not on the keypad, use the
onscreen keyboard by tapping the notepad icon in the lower right‐hand corner of the
desktop and tapping ‘Keypad’. This will bring up an onscreen keyboard that allows you
to enter all possible characters. To close the keyboard, tap the notepad icon again and
tap ‘Hide Input Panel’.
CTRL, SHIFT, 1
To get to the Power Settings:
1. Exit the [redacted] application (see above).
2. Tap the Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel.
3. Scroll down until you see the Power icon and double tap it.
4. Tap the Schemes tab and confirm that it says Battery Power in the Power
Scheme drop down.
There are 3 different states for the terminal that you can adjust. They are:
User Idle State
The User Idle state sets how long the screen will remain at full brightness before
dimming.
System Idle State
The System Idle state sets how long the screen will remain on but dimmed before
shutting off completely (the radio will remain active).
Suspend State
The Suspend state sets how long the radio remains active before the terminal enters
Suspend Mode. It is recommended that you leave this set to ‘Never’ or there is a risk of
the radio turning off while employees are using the terminal to pick.
Unfortunately, when a terminal gets out of alignment, it often renders the touch screen
useless. As a result, you will need a key sequence to get to the recalibration screen.
