Modern Communications Have Influenced

Interpersonal Communications

Since the appearing of modern communications like Email,

instant messaging, video conference and also the appearance of
devices like the Smartphone or portable computer. interpersonal
communications has been affected by this factors in many different
forms just like almost every aspect of human life.
For example television has affected family bonding along these
years; TV time is commonly interpreted as family time. However its
harder these days to establish social communication between family
members due to TV programs, which engage different family
members, distracting children and parents as well from talking with
one another. Weakening family quality time.
Nevertheless, TV has become obsolete compared to Internet. It
has became the more used method to obtain information but invest a
considerable amount of time, a time which could be used for
establishing stronger family bonds. As an example According to the to
government figures from the Office of National Statistics in the United
Kingdom, on average, adults in Britain spends just 37.5 days a year
watching television and spend more time on-line at their computers 41.5 days a year.
One cant deny the fact that Email, Instant messaging and
others, are powerful tools to transmit information or broadcasting.
Some times the meaning of the message does not reach the specified
target or even worse is misunderstood. Really meaningful messages
are recommended to be given in face to face mode, talk to
employees or family members in person; this is because according to

the UCLA psychology professor Albert Mehrabian found that in an

interaction, a mere 7 percent of communication is derived from
words. Instead, 55 percent of meaning comes from facial and body
language and 38 percent comes from vocal inflection.
There are others effects of technology, and were talking at
workplaces about the lack of socializing between coworkers. Its
demonstrated that people in workplaces when they are comfortable
doing what they do, they are more productive. In this instance
socializing is part of that comfort, normally persons whom does not
socialize is not comfortable at his work place.

technologies; they made the world that we are into right now. The
whole world has become a big village; people in different parts of the
world can communicate easily just like they are next door neighbors.
Allowing people to be connected 24/7.
At work places information can be reached in real time at any
time when its required. For business this is an advantage that gives
tremendous time savings which is the same as money savings.
Business can be done trough video conferences, allowing discussions
of terms be realized in a virtually mode giving the sensation of parts
are in the same room at that moment.
As a conclusion we can say that modern world is like we see it
today because of modern communications and other advances in
technology; we just have to make a good and responsible use of it;
controlling the fluency of information and controlling which kind of
people to engage with which kind of information. At any rate having
information when required, talk to each other no matter the distance,
thats an advantage that is priceless. We cant doom technology
advances because of our life style. Technology is what we make of it.
