CALL FOR PAPERS

Reconstruction of Production in Greece:

study the past, plan for the future
The problem of restructuring production in Greece becomes increasingly urgent.
Nevertheless, recent relevant studies fall significantly shorter compared to those
scientific analyses and the resulting proposals that took place during the first postwar decade. This indicates anything but a momentum for overcoming the impasses
of modern Greek society and economy.
We believe that we have much to learn from those pioneering scientific studies
and, thereby, to design updated and safe policies for facing the extremely critical
period we live in. Moreover, we think that, taking into account the newest
theoretical information and empirical data, we should contribute to the opening of a
public, scientifically documented, discussion for the reconstruction of production in
our country and for the respective institutional changes that will strengthen it.
Based upon this acknowledgement, the Department of Economics of the
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Department of Economics of the
University of Macedonia and the Institute for Social Research Dimitris Mpatsis, in
collaboration with the Department of Marketing of the Alexander Technological
Educational Institute of Thessaloniki and the support of the Political Economy
Research Group (PERG) and the Association of Economists of Thessaloniki
organize a Conference on the:
Reconstruction of Production in Greece:
study the past, plan for the future.
which will be hosted on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November 2015 in the
Department of Economics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
At the heart of our Conference's interest are studies on the causes of current
Great Depression and how this occurred in Greece, from 2008 onwards, as well
as papers that propose alternative plans of economic policy for reconstructing the
productive activities and relationships in the country. We also welcome papers of
economic-historical content focusing on the relevant suggestions of Greek
economists in the 1940s (Kyriakos Varvaressos, Xenophon Zolotas and Dimitris
Mpatsis among others).
