(Editorial Team)
With the completion of this year I congratulate all the students, faculty
members and each and every member of VIT campus for their best efforts in
making that a great success.
Electronics & communication is growing with a very fast pace and so
Emphasis is given on the conceptual development of the students through seminar
and conferences. Students are also actively participating in such activities and are
giving their best efforts in making an event a success.
The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra. So
lets hope for that extra in the coming years.

In next half our student visited the yard area of the GSS. All the equipments like transformer,
circuit breaker, bus bar etc were installed there. GSS staff provided us complete knowledge about
those equipments and about working of them. Our student also asked many queries about
technology of the GSS. They solved all of our queries patiently.
He initially provided basic information to our students about the power that electrical power is
generated, transmitted in the form of alternating current. The electric power produced at the
power stations is delivered to the consumers through a large network of transmission &
distribution. The transmission network is inevitable long and high power lines are necessary to
maintain huge blocks of power source of generation to the load centers to inter connected. The
electric power flows through various substation between consumer and the generation point.
The assembly of apparatus used to change some characteristics (e.g. voltage, ac to dc, frequency,
power factor etc.) of electric supply keeping the power constant is called a substation. Basically
the GSS is a substation where power (from one or more than one station comes and is then
distributed to one or more than one substation) from Heerapura line and Bassi line meet and
then the power is distributed to Puranaghat and Sitapura line after converting it into suitable
voltage level.
An electrical substation is a subsidiary station of an electricity generation, transmission and
distribution system where voltage is transformed from high to low or the reverse using
transformers. Electric power may flow through several substations between generating plant and
consumer, and may be changed in voltage in several steps. Substations have switching,
protection and control equipment and one or more transformers.
29
He told about the SCADA system which is a computer operated system in which a person can
control the whole system of transmission and distribution of power using the help of computer.
He told about the GIS system in which there are three regions:
1) Red region(which is operated at 220 V)
2) Grey region (which is operated at 132 V)
3) Green region (which is operated at 32 V)
The process involved at the GSS is that the power is firstly feeds on the feeder which is then
step-down or step-up using the transformer & increasing the power factor and then the power is
distributed to the other load stations. Circuit breaker are used to interrupt any short-circuits or
overload currents that may occur on the network. The GSS is installed with the new SF6 (sulphur
hexafluoride) circuit breakers.
30
The lightning arrester is used to save the high voltage equipments from the excessive voltage
and lightning in the sky during clouds. If any lightning falls over the equipments then the
excessive voltage is transmitted to the LA (which is an on load device) and it transmit the voltage
to the earth.
The yard is floored with the concrete which protects the equipment by absorbing the shocks, by
absorbing the water it protect from rusting, and it reduces the maintenance cost and increases the
surface tension.
CVT are used to step-down the power at a particular level using capacitor. It is a two terminal
device and connected in series.
Wave trapper is separate higher frequency signal which is then converted to the audio/visual
signal. This modern technique is used to transmit the voice from one part to another without
distortion.
Current transformer is used to convert the current to the particular level which can be
measured by the equipments easily.
Bus bar is used in the circuit to provide same voltage to the different circuit. Its main purpose is
to conduct electricity, not to function as a structural member.
A isolator switch is used to ensure that an electrical circuit is completely de-energized for
service
or
maintenance.
Such
switches
are
often
found
in electrical
distribution and industrial applications, where machinery must have its source of driving power
removed for adjustment or repair.
A relay is an electrically operated switch. Relays are switches that open and close circuits
electromechanically or electronically. Relays control one electrical circuit by opening and
closing contacts in another circuit. Relays are either electromechanical relays or solid-state
relays.
32
At the end of the tour, our students feel very thankful to acquire such useful and practical
knowledge and appreciated the teachers & the HOD sir of the electrical department for holding
such trips. The students told to the HOD sir that they enjoyed the trip and requested him to
organize such type of educational trips frequently. The HOD sir also promised to our students to
do so.

Visit Summary:In the month of October aspiring and creative and innovative students of electrical department of
engineering 3rd year had visited the place called Saras Dairy and Danikbhaskar. Jaipur Dairy
which is considered the one of the biggest running production units in India. There students had
met with Yuvraj Singh (production supervisor) was taken over the students the way around. He
explained mainly focused the students thoughts on the functioning of automation machine and
took them to functional site of Saras Dairy. The best part of that time when the students used to
see how the machines themselves made the milk product like curd, chaach, paneer, ghee. Along
with the limited use of labor. The turnover of this company is 900crore rupees per annum.
Thereafter they had visited Indias biggest fully automated printing plant of Danikbhaskar
newspaper. The whole visit was to study the KBA established (Germany based company)
75
automating printing press machine. Danikbhaskar considered the best newspaper company in
business class on the whole the visit was extremely exciting and useful for understanding
automation.
2. An Educational Cum Industrial Visit (132 KV Gss Indira Gandhi Nagar, Jaipur, And
RVPN) an ISO 9001:2000 Certified Company:Electrical engineering department of VIT campus has organised an industrial cum educational
tour on October 12th, 2013for electrical III semester students of 132 KVGSS INDIRA
GANDHI NAGAR this tour was conducted under the supervision of faculty members Mr.
Deepesh Agarwal and Mr. Ajay Jha. At GSS Exn Mr. J.N. Natani guided students to
understand the importance and the working of GSS. He provided the valuable knowledge about
the transmission and distribution of the power from one sub-station to the other sub-station to our
students.
76
He told our students about the technical advancement in GSS. He told that this GSS have
combination of both conventional and modern technology and this also comes in few sub stations
where control software SCADA is installed. Then he provided the throw knowledge of
SCADA system. After this our students visited the control room of the GSS where all the
controls of yard equipments as well as signals of protection relays were installed there. He told
us that we can control every equipment of GSS from there. In next half our student visited the
yard area of the GSS. All the equipments like transformer, circuit breaker, bus bar etc were
installed there. GSS staff provides us complete knowledge about those equipments and about
working of them. Our student also asked many queries about technology of the GSS. They
solved all of our queries patiently.
He initially provided basic information to our students about the power that electrical power is
generated, transmitted in the form of alternating current. The electric power produced at the
power stations is delivered to the consumers through a large network of transmission &
distribution. The transmission network is inevitable long and high power lines are necessary to
maintain huge blocks of power source of generation to the load centres to inter connected. The
electric power flows through various substation between consumer and the generation point.
An electrical substation is a subsidiary station of an electricity generation,
transmission and distribution system where voltage is transformed from high to low or the
reverse using transformers. Electric power may flow through several substations between
generating plant and consumer, and may be changed in voltage in several steps.Substations have
switching, protection and control equipment and one or more transformers.
He told about the SCADA system which is a computer operated system in which a person can
control the whole system of transmission and distribution of power using the help of computer.
He told about the GIS system in which there are three regions:
4) Red region(which is operated at 220 V)
5) Grey region (which is operated at 132 V)
6) Green region (which is operated at 32 V)
The process involved at the GSS is that the power is firstly feeds on the feeder which is then
step-down or step-up using the transformer & increasing the power factor and then the power is
distributed to the other load stations. Circuit breaker are used to interrupt any short-circuits or
77
overload currents that may occur on the network. The GSS is installed with the new SF6 (sulphur
hexafluoride) circuit breakers.
The lightning arrester is used to save the high voltage equipments from the excessive voltage
and lightning in the sky during clouds. If any lightning falls over the equipments then the
excessive voltage is transmitted to the LA (which is a on load device) and it transmit the voltage
to the earth.
A isolator switch is used to ensure that an electrical circuit is completely de-energised for
service or maintenance. Such switches are often found in electrical
Relays are either electromechanical relays or solid-state
relays. At the end of the tour, our students feel very thankful to acquire such useful and practical
knowledge and appreciated the teachers & the HOD sir of the electrical department for holding
such trips. The students told to the HOD sir that they enjoyed the trip and requested him to
organise such type of educational trips frequently. The HOD sir also promised to our students to
do so.
