1- Does pollution affect animals more than humans ?
, humans have more conscious control over their own environment and can
make about where they live, adjust the temperature of their houses, or choose
what to eat.
2-What are the effects of pollution on animals?
Oil spills ( = when an oil tanker .loses the oil it is carrying and it goes into
the sea ) Last the effects of an oil spill off the coast of northern Spain
were extremely serious. Although some were saved, many birds lost their
due to being covered in oil. The ecosystem and food chain (= when a small
animal/plant is eaten by a .. animal which is eaten by a
animal, etc )
are likely to be affected in that area for up to years. Many of the fish were poisoned,
which means that all animals that used to feed on those fish will be poisoned
or will starve. This makes a shortage of food for the animals higher in the food chain. It
could take 10 years to.the oil spills effect.
Acid rain: burning certain fuels produces sulphur dioxide. This mixes with rainwater and
causes acid rain. This gets into rivers and causes fish to have defects or die.
This also affects the food chain.
Rubbish: Animals often become entangled with rubbish ..six pack rings. Unless
they can get rid of it, they cant function properly. Unless they can function properly, they
die.
Industrial waste: industrial waste can cause acid rain or the amount of
carbon dioxide in the which causes global warming.
Global warming: carbon dioxide traps heat in the s atmosphere, not allowing it to
escape, just like glass in a greenhouse, so it is called The Greenhouse Effect . This
causes the Earth to heat ..and in some cases rainfall .. and in other cases
it increases, causing This means some plants cannot grow. Unless the plants
grow, many people in the developing world die, and so do animals.
Pesticides and fertilizers : rain washes pesticides and fertilizers into .
Pesticides harm the animals and can cause genetic defects. Fertilizers allow bacteria and
plants to grow .. fast. This steals oxygen in the water and can .the animals.
Deforestation: When trees are pulled down for , they cannot absorb carbon
dioxide or provide oxygen. This adds to global warming and means some plants have less
shade and cannot grow. This means some animals have less ..eat and become
endangered. This is a particular problem in the Amazonian rainforest.
3-What can be done ?
One of the main problems the planet is that the population has increased so
much. In 1930 the world population was 2000 .., it is now 6000 million. If there
