Learner Analysis
The learners for this unit are fifth grade students at Chattahoochee Elementary School in
Duluth, Georgia. Chattahoochee is a diverse school (Table 1) with varying level of abilities.
The class that will host the unit is Ms. Millers fifth grade class. Through interviews with Ms.
Miller, data was collected about her students (Table 2).

In an interview with Ms. Miller, it was determined that her students have very limited
knowledge of copyright laws, and with the increased interest in web presentation tools, and
opportunities to plagerize and copy materials, it was determined that a copyright unit would
be beneficial. In my interview with Ms. Miller, she also mentioned seeing several cases where
copyright infringement might of taken place within some of her students work.
I also interviewed two students in Ms. Millers class to see what
kind of prior knowledge and experience each had with copyright
in general (Table 3). Both students basically had very limited
knowledge of copyright and fair use. Based on this, a general
overivew of copright and fair use would be most appropriate.

Differentiation
For students with disabilities, discussion and assessment activities can be read aloud and
paper copies for PowerPoint activities can be provided and material can be read aloud. There
is one student who has a hearing impairment in Ms. Millers class. This student needs to sit
close to the teacher and can use his own head phones for any of the presentation material
that has sound. Because Ms. Millers 5th grade class has many accelerated and gifted
learners, students can be allowed to participate on their tablets or mobile devices throughout
the lessons and can work on trivia quiz on their own.
