Dickens

Charlens Dickens was born in Portsmoth in 1812. He had an unhappy childhood. His
father was imprisoned for debt with the whole family, expot for him who was put at
work in a factory. When his father was relased but he continue to work in a factory. He
began to work at a Cowyers and studied at night, than he began to work as a reporter
for a newspaper. In 1833 his firts sotry appared and in 1856, still a newspaper reporter
he adopted the pew name Londons people. Dickens started a full-time career as a
nouvelist, he also continued his journalistic and editorial activities. Oliver Twist was
published in 1839. in 1844 he pubblished a Christmas Carol, his first successful novel.
The protagonist of his novel, oliver Twist, David Copperfield became symbols of the
Childhad in factory and Slums. Other works include Hard Times, Great Expctaction and
black house, which deal wish social issues . He died in 1870 in london.

Oliver Twist is the story of a young orphan, Oliver, and his attempts to survive in a
society, the Victorian one, that refused illegitimate children and didn't take care of
poor people.

George Orwell
Eric Blair who used the pen name George Orwell, was born in india in 1903. The most
important novel of Orwell is 1984. The novel describes a future world divided in three
blocks: oceania Eurasia and Est asia. Britain, which is part of Oceania, is called
"Airstrip One", dominated by omnipresent "Big Brother", ruled by "Ingsoc" (English
Socialism), and controlled by the omniscient "Thought Police" aiming at the elimination
of all original ideas and individual emotions. Huge photographs of the leader dominate
every public spaces, worth the grim warning that "Big Brother is watching you". At
home, every citizen is spied on by a camera, children are encouraged to denounce
their parents for deviations from strict political orthodoxy. The protagonist is a
intellectual and a member of the Outer Party whose job is to carry out this
manipulation of the facts by rewriting old books and newspaper.

Dorian grey
Dorian Gray is a fascinating and lovely young man, whose beauty fascinates an artist,
Basil Hallward, who, one evening paints him in his office where the story starts. Infact
in the office Dorian meets the cynic and charismatic Lord, Henry Wotton, that reveals
him the sense of beauty, that is the highest aspect of the genius, it is the biggest thing
of the world, it is extraordinary but also temporary, so urges him to live his youth
intensely. Driven by Wottons words Dorian, gives himself up to the search of unbridled
passions and pleasures. Dorian doesnt tolerate to gets old while the pictures of his
friend Basil will not change. So Dorian expresses the wish of the eternal youth and
magically the sins of the age, experience and vice appear in the portrait. Dorian
continues to live only for pleasure, making use of everybody and letting people die
because of his insensibility as his lover, a actress, that kills herself because Dorian

doesnt manage to love her, and Basil Hallward that he considers responsible of the
ugliness and kills.
Mary shelley
Mary Shelley was born in 1797 in England.Frankestein: Mary sympathise with the
monster, but she is afraid of the consequences of his actions. In this, there is tension
between the fear of revolution and interest in revolutionary deals. Mary was
particulary interested in science and here knowledges influenced the immage of
frnakestein
Jane Austen
Was born in 1775 in the southwest of england. Pride and predjudice: Elizabeth Bennet,
who is a witty and independent young girl, lives in England with her four sisters, her
mother, and her father. When Mr. Bingley, a handsome, rich, young bachelor, arrives
to stay briefly in Hartfordshire (where the Bennets live), Mrs. Bennet immediately tries
to get one of her daughters to marry him. Bingley is a charming young man and
quickly falls in love with the eldest Bennet sister, the beautiful Jane. It is a guarded
relationship, so Jane and Bingley don't express outright their mutual feelings for each
other, though Bingley obviously shows favor to Jane. Meanwhile, Bingley's proud friend
Darcy meets Elizabeth. Elizabeth loathes Mr. Darcy, and avoids him as much as
possible. Though Darcy is proud and reserved at first, it becomes obvious of his
fondness for Elizabeth. Convention, however, restricts his affection for her, seeing as
he is rich and high on the social ladder, and Elizabeth comes from a middle-class
family.
