Structure
ThestandardSAPR/3Systemcontainsthefollowingmaterialtypes:
CONT(KANBANcontainers)
ThismaterialtypeisrecommendedforcreatingKANBANcontainersasamaterial.InthestandardSAPR/3System,
onlytheBasicDataviewisoffered.UsingthismaterialtypemakesiteasytosearchforKANBANcontainers.
DIEN(services)
Servicescanbeperformedinternallyorprocuredexternally(outsourced).Theycannotbestoredortransported.
Examplesincludeconstructionwork,janitorial/cleaningservices,andlegalservices.
ERSA(spareparts)
Sparepartsareusedtoreplacedefectiveparts.Theymaybekeptinstock.Amaterialmasterrecordofthismaterial
typecancontainpurchasingdata,butnotsalesdata.
FERT(finishedproducts)
Finishedproductsareproducedinhouse.SincetheycannotbeorderedbyPurchasing,amaterialmasterrecordof
thismaterialtypedoesnotcontainpurchasingdata.
FGTR(beverages)
FHMI(productionresources/tools)
Productionresources/toolsareprocuredexternallyandusedinproductionorplantmaintenance.Amaterialmaster
recordofthismaterialtypecancontainpurchasingdata,butnotsalesdata.Itismanagedonaquantitybasis.
Examplesofproductionresources/toolsincludejigsandfixtures,andmeasuringandtestequipment.
FOOD(foodsexcludingperishables)
FRIP(perishables)
Goodsinanassortmentthatareperishablesuchasfruit,vegetables,dairyproducts,andmeat.
HALB(semifinishedproducts)
Semifinishedproductscanbeprocuredexternallyandmanufacturedinhouse.Theyarethenprocessedbythe
company.Amaterialmasterrecordofthismaterialtypecancontainbothpurchasingandworkschedulingdata.
HAWA(tradinggoods)
Tradinggoodsarealwaysprocuredexternallyandthensold.Amaterialmasterrecordofthismaterialtypecan
containpurchasingdataandsalesdata.
HERS(manufacturerparts)
Manufacturerpartsarematerialsthatcanbesuppliedbydifferentmanufacturersand/orvendorswhousedifferent

Operatingsuppliesareprocuredexternallyandrequiredforthemanufactureofotherproducts.Amaterialmaster
recordofthismaterialtypecancontainpurchasingdata,butnotsalesdata.
IBAU(maintenanceassemblies)
Maintenanceassembliesarenotindividualobjects,butlogicalelementstoseparatetechnicalobjectsintomore
clearlydefinedunitsinplantmaintenance.Forexample,anautomobilecanbeatechnicalobject,andtheengine,
gearbox,chassis,andsoonthemaintenanceassemblies.Amaterialmasterrecordofthismaterialtypecancontain
basicdataandclassificationdata.
INTR(intramaterials)
Intramaterialsexistonlytemporarilybetweentwoprocessingsteps.Amaterialmasterrecordofthismaterialtype
containsneitherpurchasingnorsalesdata.
KMAT(configurablematerials)
Configurablematerialsarematerialsthatcanhavedifferentvariants.Forexample,anautomobilecanhavedifferent
typesofpaintwork,trim,andengine.TheMaterialisconfigurableindicatorisalreadysetforthismaterialtypein
CustomizingfortheMaterialMasterintheactivityDefineattributesofmaterialtypes.
Amaterialmasterrecordofthismaterialtypecontainssalesdata,butnotpurchasingdata.

LOVariant

LEER(industryempties)andLGUT(retailempties)
Emptiesareatypeofreturnabletransportpackaginggenerallysubjecttoadeposit.Theycanconsistofseveral
componentsgroupedtogetherinabillofmaterial(BOM)thatareassignedtoafullproduct.Forexample,anempty
crateandtheemptybottlesareassignedtothefullproductbeer.EachofthecomponentsintheBOMhasa
separatematerialmasterrecord.
MODE(apparel(seasonal))
NLAG(nonstockmaterials)
Nonstockmaterialsarenotheldinstockbecausetheyareconsumedimmediately.
NOF1(nonfoods)
Nonfoodsareitemssoldingrocerystores,otherthanfood.Examplesincludepaperproductsandmagazines.
PIPE(pipelinematerials)
Materialssuchasoil,power,orwaterthatflowintotheproductionprocessdirectlyfromapipeline,line,orothertype
ofconduit.Sincepipelinematerialsarealwaysavailable,theyarenotplanned.
PROC(processmaterials)
Processmaterialsareusedinthemanufactureofcoproducts.Theyarenotphysicalentities,butrepresent
productionprocesses.Theyareusefulifproductionisinitiatedbytheavailabilityofinputmaterialsandcapacities,
andnotbymaterialrequirementsplanning.
PROD(productgroups)
Productgroupsaggregatematerialsaccordingtocertainfreelydefinablecriteria.Forexample,theproductsmaybe
similartoeachotherinsomeway,ortheymaybefinishedproductsthatwereproducedonthesamemachine.A

ROH(rawmaterials)
Rawmaterialsarealwaysprocuredexternallyandthenprocessed.Amaterialmasterrecordofthistypecontains
purchasingdata,butnotsalesdatasincetheycannotbesold.
UNBW(nonvaluatedmaterials)
Nonvaluatedmaterialsaremanagedonaquantitybasis,butnotbyvalue.
VERP(packagingmaterials)
Packagingmaterialsareusedtotransportgoodsandcomewiththegoodsfreeofcharge.Amaterialmasterrecord
ofthismaterialtypeismanagedonbothaquantitybasisandvaluebasis.
VKHM(additionals)
Additionalsareassignedtoamaterialtobesoldtoensureitseffectivepresentationtocustomers.Examplesinclude
clotheshangers,carelabels,andservicessuchaspressingclothingfordisplayorarrangingitonhangers.
VOLL(fullproducts)
Fullproductsarethecounterparttoempties.Forexample,withacrateoflemonade,thefullproductisthelemonade
itself,whiletheemptiesaretheindividualbottlesandthecrate.
WERB(advertisingmedia)
Meansofpresentationusedinadvertisingthatgroupstogetheradvertisingmessagesaboutanumberofmaterials.
Examplesincludeprintedmailordercatalogs,computercatalogsonCDROM,andpromotionalfliers.
WERT(valueonlyarticles)
Avalueonlyarticlerepresentsagroupofarticleswhoseinventoryisnotmanagedonanarticlebasis.Allgoods
movementsforthisgroupofarticlesarepostedtothevalueonlyarticle.
WETT(competitiveproducts)
Observingandevaluatingtheactivitiesofyourcompetitorsisessentialforoptimummarketanalysis.Youcanenter
basicdataontheproductsofyourcompetitorsinmaterialmasterrecordsofthismaterialtype.Byspecifyinga
