CYMCAP 6.1.1
New Features and improvements:
A new library called Jobs template is available in the navigator. This library
allows modeling the following layouts without cables and saving them in the
library: non-standard duct banks, backfills, unfilled troughs and groups of
layouts. The layouts coming from the Jobs template library can later be used
when building an MDB installation.
In MDB installations, a backfill can be edited to change its size or its location.
A backfill can also be modeled as duct bank with texture to change its
dimensions in terms of height and width instead of changing its coordinates.
In MDB installations, user can enter the depth of duct bank / duct / trough /
casing from the earth surface to the bottom of the layout. Previously, user
could only enter the depth of a layout according to its top or its centre.
For MDB installations, a new option allows setting the thermal resistivity of
the backfill to the same value than the soil thermal resistivity.
User can create a new execution from scratch within an existing study.
When executing a copy tagged to, CYMCAP allows creating a new folder
from the "browse for folder" dialog box and copying the tagged elements of
the navigator into the new folder.
For trefoil circuits, the temperature of the hottest cable is displayed instead of
systematically displaying the temperature of phase A.
For tunnel installation, precision has been increased when calculating the
distance between cables. For some cases, this might have affected the
convection coefficient used for the configuration. The problem is corrected.
Correction to the short-circuit report. The value reported as the sheath cross
sectional area, S, was not computed correctly when wires were used for a
metallic layer (concentric wires/skid wires, armor wires). The value reported
was the cross-sectional area of one wire instead of the total cross-sectional
area of the metallic layer.
User cannot enter anymore zero angles for two circuits crossing.
Validation on tunnel edge has been corrected for some tunnel configurations.
Hardware requirements:
For MDB only, pipe type cables coordinates for Y position was
offset a little bit from its real position when sent to the engine in
previous CYMCAP version. This problem is corrected.
Pipe type cables are now considered with D-shaped skid wires
(round wire was assumed before in the calculation of the
resistance of the wires).
User can define and save customize default values for ambient
temperature, native soil thermal resistivity, dimensions and
materials of backfills, ductbanks, casings and ducts in casing.
These default parameters can later be used when creating or
modifying a new installation. These customized default parameters
can be entered by the user under Options/Preferences/Customize
Installation Defaults.
Force the user to enter skid wires when creating a new pipe type
cable into cable library.
New feature that allow user to show his company logo on every
page of the EXCEL report.
In the summary report of the Excel report, the display of the neutral
temperature was changed from 20.0 (default) to -. Temperature of
the neutral conductor is not computed by CYMCAP as it is only
used for sequence impedance calculations.
Correction to compute sheath factor (SHF) for not only two point
bonded but also for for othe bonding arrangements.
Display correction for the diameter over the three cores, "d", for
sector shaped screened cables. The drawing that shows the
dimension corresponding to "d" was also modified accordingly.
insulation.
The loss factor in the case there are different cable types in the
same installation, some with an armor, the others without an
armor, was not calculated correctly. The changes can be more
significant in the case of two point bonded systems.
The Excel report does not show any more 0 for the induced
voltage when we have cross bounding system with unequal
sections length and user supplies AM and AN. This is because
when the minor sections lengths are not equal, we still have some
residual induced voltage in the sheath.
A bug to calculate the area of the skid wires has been corrected.
This affects the pipe type installations.
Change done in Cable Library for pipe type cable when choosing
the diameter of the skid wires via the wire gauge. Diameter value
taken from the wire gauge selection is divided by 2 to represent
half of the skid wire as it showed in the cable graphic
representation.
CYMCAP 5.3.2
CYMCAP 5.3.1
In this new release, one can take into account the mutual
electrical interactions between the cables of different circuits. In
the IEC standard only thermal interaction between different
circuits is considered. The only exception is when the circuits are
multiple cables per phase.
Changed the way the thermal capacitances for three core cables
are computed. This correction will affect the calculation results
Minor correction for the custom value given a "not a valid floating
number" in the cable library. (Cymcap 5.2 rev 1b)
Add in summary page of the Excel report a new entry which is:
"Fraction of conductor current returning through sheath for single
phase cables". (Cymcap 5.2 rev 1b)
CYMCAP 5.2.1
New features added:
When the cable on the riser pole was exposed to solar radiation,
the effect of solar radiation was computed in a wrong place
inside the code. The applied changes affect only cables on riser
poles exposed to solar radiation.
IEC standard does not support air installations where the circuits
use multiple cables per phase.
In the case of cross bonded systems where the user defines the
minor section lengths by specifying AM and AN, Lambda1 is
obtained using the same parameter evaluated for the two point
bonded systems. The proportionality constant is given by the IEC
standard. Based on the recent updates in the standard this
constant is changed accordingly.
Some discrepancies in the results of some casing studies with 3core cables. The results show very low temperatures for these
cases.
Changed the display of T2 and T3 for the pipe type cable. The
results are not affected. Just the display is modified.
nobody produces cables like this, but in older days, this could
happen, so SAMP supports this. I checked whether the cable
has no jacket and no serving. However, I should also check
whether it does have a metallic part outside
The correction for the short circuit add-on module that pertains to
the cables with armor. The number of armor wires was not
transmitted
properly
to
the
appropriate
subroutine.
The total losses were computed correctly, but the split was not
done correctly. This change will have a small effect on ampacity
only for cables having all: concentric wires, sheath (with
reinforcement or not) and steel wire armor.
This new version includes the latest updates for the parameters
U, Y and V for plastic ducts to calculate T4 (issued by the IEC
standard).
CYMCAP 5.1.4
ZMAT calculations account now for all bonding types, including cross bonding.
The validation of the ZMAT module is now completed.
For ZMAT module, user can change the resistivity of earth before launching
impedance calculations. By default, this resistivity is set to 100 ohms/m.
Modification in Cable library when user chooses a custom material for insulation.
Now, the option Enter TANDELTA and EPSILN is prompted automatically.
The bonding option "3-CON, sheath/screen around each core single point
bonded" is locked when the cable has magnetic armour.
Correction of the U, V and Y factors used to compute T4, the thermal resistance
between cable and duct (or pipe).Values for plastic ducts have been modified as
per IEC 60287-2-1, amendment 2. Values for plastic ducts used to be U=5,2;
V=1,1 and Y=0,011. Now, these values have been corrected for U=1,87;
V=0,312 and Y=0,0037.
User is not allowed anymore to model armored cable without bedding and
serving.

current open one.
Add a new validation to avoid the same cable to be used as a two trefoils in a
duct and one trefoil in a duct.
Correction done for Excel report in page "Cable input data" under section
'Specific installation data' for item 'RH' of duct construction. In some installations
the RH value was printed to 0 instead to it's real value. This error had no impact
for the calculation.

the latest one, i.e. IEC 60287-2-2.
A correction has been made into the EXCEL report for CABLES IN AIR
installation to report correctly the intensity of solar radiation.
One more decimal has been added to the X - coordinates appearing on the
graphical output of the installation. Actually, sometimes, the X - coordinate values
displayed on the X - Axis of the installation were different from the same
coordinates as displayed by the mouse cursor. This was due to a round up to
one decimal of X-AXIS coordinates.
The maximum value allowed for the thermal resistivity of the heat source
insulation has been increased from 6.0 to 50.0 C-M/W.

CYMCAP 5.0.2
Correction was made when the user creates an Excel report after choosing the
option Custom as material for the conductor. In the previous version, an invalid
format for the <MATERIAL> type was introduced into the XML file for the CABLE
information and made the REPGEN application crash.
Correction was made into the Excel report for inside and outside duct diameters
in imperial units. These two values are now correctly shown in inches. When
working in IMPERIAL mode, the duct diameters used to be converted wrongly
from "Meter to Feet" instead of "Meter to Inch" in the Excel Report.

with scaling factor of 1.0. Some previous results can be affected.
Correction was made into the original database of CYMCAP. In the cable library,
the conductor area of some secondary cables has been modified to be in
accordance with the conductor diameter.
Correction was made to replace all '' characters with '2' in the cable title because
the small '' was making the Excel report crash!
Correction was made in the SAMPW engine for the mean sheath diameter
calculated for a COMBINED SHEATH cable. In previous version, the mean
sheath diameter used and reported into the EXCEL report was too small (half of
wat it was supposed to be for COMBINED SHEATH cable). The calculation of
mean sheath has been revised consequently. The results are slightly affected by
this change.
The iterative algorithm used for Cables in Trough was modified to avoid the
convergence problems occurring in some cases.
The zero sequence impedance calculation displayed in the Excel Report has
been corrected for pipe type cables. In the previous version, the zero sequence
impedance for pipe type cables was not computed correctly.
For pipe type cables, a factor 1.7 was used to compute the conductor AC
resistance at maximum temperature, according to the Neher-Mc-Grath method.
This factor has been changed for 1.5 in accordance with IEC Standards 60287.

CYMCAP 4.2.2
A lock has been added in the specific installation data to prevent users to enter
cross-bonded cables when there are multiple-cables per phase mixed with other
cables in a given installation.
The calculation of standing voltages for installations with multiple cables per
phase and other cables with different bonding arrangements has been disabled.
A problem with trefoil, multiple-cables per phase and magnetic conduits was
fixed. The ampacity was on the optimist side. The changes affect the results in
the following manner: For unequally loaded cables but no multiple cables per
phase and no magnetic duct there is no change; For unequally loaded cables
with either multiple cables per phase or magnetic duct there will be an ampacity
reduction. Larger reductions are expected when there is more than one metallic
duct and the separation between ducts is large. For equally loaded cables, the
percent of change depends on the number of ducts, for installations with one
duct with three cables there is no change. For the equally loaded cables
together with multiple ducts the new ampacities are lower. In summary, the
largest changes are for multiple cables per phase in magnetic ducts separated a
large distance.
Pipe type cables were repeated three times in the data file when not entered at
the beginning. This produced sometimes an error 3 with MDB and strange output
results with both the MDB and the standard calculation engines. This problem
only affected installations with several cables and when pipe type cables were
not entered at the beginning.
A problem was fixed with the specific installation data for pipe type cables. Some
information was not displayed.
A problem with transient calculations was fixed. The wrong load was assigned to
cables when there was at least one fixed ampacity circuit. This was observed as
a phase-shift between the peak of the load and the peak of the temperature.

the 'New load' button did not work.
Correct a problem with heat sources for the multiple duct bank facility. The
results were greatly in the conservative side. It is advisable for the users to
repeat the calculation of all cases using the Multiple Duct Banks (MDB)
module when heat sources are present.
Correct a problem with study ID having leading spaces. Some study data
was not loading in memory after opening an execution and look as data was
lost. Cymcap now support leading spaces for study ID.

A new add-on module can be called from CYMCAP to handle MULTIPLE DUCT
BANKS (BACKFILLS or SOIL LAYERS) with different thermal resistivity in the
same installation.
Cymcap now allows for the automatic selection of the reference circuit during the
calculation. 'Automatic' selection of the reference circuit is set by default for the
multiple duct banks mode. It will try to find a solution in one call to the finite
elements engine avoiding unnecessary re-meshing.
A new facility has been added for cables in air to calculate the intensity of solar
radiation by entering the geographic position of the installation and the day of the
year.
A new configuration of cable has been added to the installation setup. The 'Ducts
in trefoil' facility allows the user to easily add three ducts in trefoil formation
automatically without entering the (x,y) location for each cable.

the installation to clipboard.
The "copy to clipboard" option for the Steady-State report has been modified in
order to capture the section selected by the user instead of capturing the entire
report.
A new feature has been added in the navigator under the 'STUDY' tab to view
the installation directly from the navigator before open it.
Two new sections have been added as radio buttons after 'Standing voltages' in
the STEADY-STATE report: 'Thermal resistances' and 'Thermal capacitances'
can be seen now.
Correction of a problem for the cable layout of some very old installations built
with Cymcap for DOS that was not displayed correctly after opening an
execution.
Migration of Cymcap data from XBASE (*.DBF) files to MDB (Microsoft Access
Database) files. Cymcap data will be stored now in one file named
CymcapData.MDB in each working directory that contains Cymcap data.
The recycle bin image on the top-right corner of the navigator has been removed
permanently since it only worked with XBASE files. Be careful in the future
when deleting items from your data. These items will be deleted
CYMCAP 3.08.2
Add a warning for Cables in Air before calculating when the installation is not
supported in the IEC Standards.
A correction was made to the steady state report. The heading of the AM and
AN ratios for cross bonded cables was printed reversed. The calculations
were correct.

been widened from a lower limit of -10 W/m to -50 W/m.
CYMCAP 3.08.1
Three new options have been added into the popup menu (right hand click)
on the "study" page tab. The new options allow to print all executions for one
or more studies.
An addition was made to allow the computation of the standing voltages for
an installation combining cables with single-point bonding, two-point bonding
and three-core cables with common sheath.
CYMCAP 3.07.2
Correction of the limit values for the solar radiation in cables in air when using
imperial units

phase
Internal correction made for transient input data became invalid after adding new
circuits to an existing installation.
CYMCAP 3.07.1
An error introduced in version 3.06 with the value displayed for the KCMIL of the
conductor area was corrected. We have returned to the same value displayed in
Cymcap 3.05 and earlier versions.
CYMCAP 3.06
A correction was made in the Transient Analysis calculation when the last layer
was the belt of a three-core cable.
The default values of solar radiation for cables in air has been changed to:
Shaded: 1.0 W/m^2
Non-Shaded: 1000 W/m^2
Minimum value when the cables are not shaded: 500 W/m^2.
A minor correction was made in editing mode when entering the number of
cables per phase.
CYMCAP 3.05
Correction of a minor problem for the ductbank library when adding a new
ductbank. After saving a just created duct bank, Cymcap was not able to save
new changes to the same duct bank because it remained in Add mode.
CYMCAP 3.04
CYMCAP 3.03
Supports the new Protection Key Utilities 2.32 (HASP M4 Parallel and USB port,
Sentinel-LM standalone and network software licensing).
CYMCAP 3.02
Cymcap is now fully compatible with European Regional Settings using the
'comma' as well as the decimal point. In earlier versions, users concerned with
this issue should change the comma to a decimal point in order to use Cymcap.
The application will continue to recognize only '.' as the decimal point but the
users can now type the ',' character of their keyboard and Cymcap will convert it
to a '.' automatically.
We now display in the Steady-State report the last iteration results when the
solution did not converge.
CYMCAP 3.01
Add in the cable editor extra information about the magnitude of the
resistivity for all custom materials.
Make proper logoff for the protection key (software licence key) when leaving the
application.

starting point.
Load curves can now be superimposed onto the graphical transient results for
transient option 6 only.
Heat source curves can now be superimposed onto the graphical transient
results for transient option 6 only.
User can now create a new study based on a template i.e. create a new study
with all executions of the template study.
A search utility in the study tree is now available to find study titles.
A search utility in the study tree is now available to find execution titles.
A search utility in the study tree is now available to find all executions using a
given cable ID.
The study ID, cable ID, and the load ID are now displayed in the navigator.
New transient calculation parameters were added in the transient data dialog
box. These new parameters allow the solving of transient on a per circuit basis.
All custom components can now be replaced by a meaningful name in the cable
library.
Design and emergency temperature in the cable library can be entered now.
There is now a more elegant way to present the Steady State report.
Two new tabular reports have been added to transient option 6: The 'Emergency
Exposure Time Report' and the 'Peak Temperature Report'.

mode and in the 'duct bank optimizer module'.
The number of significant digits for the time duration of shapes has been
extended to three decimal places.
CYMCAP will display a warning message if the Steady State engine does not
converge.
A problem was corrected with transient simulations when the installation has
multiple cables per phase. The user will notice now that the unequally loaded
solution will be used for multiple cables per phase, and that a reference circuit
now needs to be specified. These changes affect the steady state ampacity as
well, but only for solidly bonded cables. Note that the user should expect certain
differences with respect to previous versions. The more parallel cables per phase
the larger the differences will be. Additionally, the transient simulations will be
slower. The more parallel cables per phase the slower the simulation.
A problem with the steady state report for parallel cables (in air) was fixed. The
correct number of cables is now displayed.
The convergence method has been improved. The temperature of cables will be
closer to the target values and some cases that previously did not converged will
now converge.
A problem with transients was fixed for cables that have simultaneously: a lead
sheath with a reinforcing tape, concentric neutral wires and steel wire armor. The
results would be more accurate now.
The highlighting color for cables has been changed from red to yellow.
Study and Execution titles have been added to all transient reports.
A problem with very short duration transients was corrected. The temperature
versus time plot will now show the right temperature behavior when the load
ceases.
A problem with a sudden drop of the transient temperature has been corrected.
This problem occurred only on extremely rare occasions and does not produce
noticeable changes for cases not showing inconsistency. The only except are
simulations that run to very high temperatures (over 150 C).
