EXTERNAL LIGHTING
1.
If you have not already read the Guidance Manual on Model Specification for Building
Services in Health Care Buildings, please do so!
This system approach to contract documentation has been prepared by many experienced
design engineers throughout the country to enable you to utilise your own expertise on
hospital projects to the full extent and reduce the repetitive work to a minimum.
2.
This is only one section of the specification suitable for tender documentation.
3.
The content of this section is set out at the front of the document.
4.
To make a full specification for contract documentation it will have attached:PART A - Standard General Conditions and Preliminary Clauses.
PART B - General Clauses Common to Building Services Plant and Equipment.
PART D - Detailed Description of Extent and Nature of Works.
5.
Not all the services incorporated in this section may be needed for your project. For
example, if it is to consist of only wall mounted luminaires illuminating the immediate area
surrounding a single building, the detailed description of works in Part D will specify
which elements of the section are applicable. Designers should ensure that all the relevant
standards (BS, IEC, ISO etc) are the latest issues including all amendments.
6.
Since this specification is intended for use throughout the UK it is universal in character
and therefore contains elements covering all aspects of a lighting services installation.
Leave this section bound together, elements should not be extracted. Select the project
requirement and specify in Part D.
7.
This section has been written to include all data information and guidance contained in the
following documents:-

8.
Attention is drawn to Section 611 of the IEE Wiring Regulations, Sixteenth edition, BS
7671: 1992.
9.
Whilst writing Part D, consideration must be given to the information given in the
following clauses:-
Clause 01.04
Clause 02.01
Clause 02.02
Clause 02.06
Clause 02.07
Both require the method of fixing to be adopted for securing wall mounted
luminaires to the building etc, to be detailed in Part D to ensure fixings are
compatible with the building etc fabric.

The materials, components and completed installations shall conform as applicable with
the following Standards, including all amendments, current at the time of tendering.
Construction products should comply with European Standards and Technical
Specifications (ESTS). Wherever reference is made to a British Standard a
corresponding ESTS (generally ISO series) shall be equally acceptable.
Where available all materials, equipment etc forming part, or whole, of the services
specified in the Contract, should be obtained from BS EN ISO 9000 - "Quality
Assurance" certified manufacturers and preferably "kite marked" or EC equivalent.
All luminaires must carry the CE mark.
The latest dates of standard references are given at the time of issue of this Section.
