HISTORY
It's no secret to us that Apple's products tend to generate what some might consider
insane amounts of interest for weeks, months, and even years before they're launched or even
announced. Whether you love the company or hate its guts, you can't deny that Apple is
particularly prone to being fodder for the rumor mill. Here at Engadget, we've always been pretty
proud of our ability to decode fact from fiction, and we try not to add too much noise to the echo
chamber in which the gadget world seems to sometimes live. That said, we do cover plenty of
rumors -- and the Apple Tablet may just be the biggest and most twisted of them all.
introduced in 1993. This effort led to the creation of the ARM6 processor core with Acorn
thePenLite, but did not sell it to avoid hurting MessagePad sales. Apple released several more
Newton-based PDAs, and discontinued the last in the line, the MessagePad 2100, in 1998.
Apple reentered the market in 2007 with the iPhone. Smaller than the iPad but featuring a
camera and mobile phone, it pioneered the multitouch interface of iPhone OS. By late 2009, the
iPad's release had been rumored for several months with iSlate and iTablet among speculated
names. The product was announced on January 27, 2010, at an Apple press conference at

iPhone OS (known as OS X, OS X iPhone or iPhone OS X in its early history) is a mobile
operating system developed and marketed by Apple Inc. It is the default operating system of
aUnix-like operating system by nature. iPhone OS has four abstraction layers: the Core OS layer,
the Core Services layer, the Media layer, and the Cocoa Touch layer. The operating system uses

device is turned on or whenever the home button is pressed. The screen has a status bar across

devoted to the current application. There is no concept of starting or quitting applications, only
opening an application from the home screen, and leaving the application to return to the home

general input and output and a 3.5mm headphone jack for plugging in headphones to listen to
Controls
To control the iPad and the software it runs you mostly use the multi-touch touchscreen display.
The iPad also has external buttons for sleep, mute and controlling the volume as well as a button
to return to the home screen. It also has an Accelerometer (for motion sensitivity) and a digital
magnetic compass.
Software
Like the iPhone, with which it shares a development environment, the iPad will only run
software downloaded from Apple's App Store. The iPad will run almost all third-party iPhone
applications unmodified (they can be displayed at iPhone size or enlarged to fill the iPad's larger
screen); developers can also create apps specifically for the iPad's features.
The iPad will come with the following applications: Safari, Mail, Photos, Video, YouTube,
iTunes Store, App Store, Maps, Notes, Calendar, Contacts, and Spotlight. The iPad syncs with
iTunes on a Mac or Windows PC. Apple ported its iWork suite from the Mac to the iPad; the
Pages, Numbers, and Keynote applications will be sold in the App Store. Although the iPad is

Like the iPhone and iTouch, there is a black band surrounding the screen and a home button.
There are volume buttons, a light meter and speakers as well. The back of the iPad features a
"piano black" Apple icon. It syncs to itunes with the now-familiar USB cable.
9. Can you sync your iPhone to iPad as opposed to using your home computer?
Most likely not. The iPad will come with a dock with USB connector which is how it will sync
with your computer.
10. Can you write with a stylus on the new IPad and does it have a software similar to
Windows Journal for tablet PCs?
There are 3rd party stylus pens designed to work with the iPhone. The iPad uses the same multi-
touch technology, so these would work on it as well.
-There are lots of apps for the iPhone/iPod touch for handwriting and handwriting recognition,
such as HWpen, Inkiness, ZeptoPad, WritePad, etc. These should work also on the iPad.
For more detailed information on the Apple iPad, see the Related Link below that takes you to
the official video for the Apple iPad.
11. Will the ipad be able to connect to your home isp or do you have to subscribe to the att
internet?
You can use wi-fi on any home internet service provider- for ever! But if you want to use the
iPad on the go with 3G, you have to subscribe with AT&T (as of right now).
13. Is an iPad solid like if you sit on it is it gonna stay in one piece?
It's pretty sturdy. I wouldnt recommend sitting on it though.
14. Was the ipad built to compete against the netbook or reader?
Absolutely. Apple's strategy is brilliant. Netbooks were slowly catching up in the market, but
apple realized that the netbooks in the market aren't that great. They built iPad to compete with
netbooks, and from what i've seen so far, we can definitely expect a drop in netbook sales.
People will prefer iPad especially since it can run iPhone apps. There are over 140,000 apps for
iPhone, and by promoting iPads, apple is going to increase their app sales.
15. Which should you buy Either Apple iPad 3G or Sony Vaio NW series?
Sony Vaio series is much more elegant than Apple's iPad 3G. and of course it can be much more
effieceint to use of its new feature .. and its sleek design makes your girl go "Oh mY!" ;pp
CONCLUSION
Will the iPad become the success Apple anticipates, or will it be a just a gadget for those that
already have all the other electronic gadgets available and want to show off?
In my opinion, this tablet computer is the start of a new revolution in computing. The ease of
use of the iPad, the myriad of applications already there and in development, and its great design
and capabilities will attract many people. The price range, starting at $ 499 all the way up to $
829 for the 64 GB model with 3G, will not be much of a stumbling block for this, given that a
Given that the machine can take over many of the older machinery people have at home and at
the office, and the fantastic specs of the screen, I expect Apple's iPad to show up in board rooms,
