environmentintobaccosmoke,automobileexhaust,rendering,inwastestreamsfrompulpbleaching,andby
photochemicaloxidationsofanthropogeniccompoundsduringlongrangetransport.Ifreleasedtosoil,oxalicacid
underenvironmentalconditions(pH59)willbeintheformoftheoxalateion(pKa1andpKa2of1.25and4.28,
respectively)andisexpectedtoleachinsoil.Photolysisisexpectedtobeanimportantfateprocessthedaytime
persistenceofoxalicacidonsoilsurfacesisnotexpectedtoexceedafewhours.Baseduponscreening
biodegradationtests,biodegradationinsoilisexpectedtobeimportant.Ifreleasedtowater,oxalicacidwillnot
volatilize,adsorbtosediment,bioconcentrateinaquaticorganisms,oxidizeorhydrolyze.Thepredominantaquatic
