returns due to technology advances. Flownex Simulation Environment is the main technological advance that the industry can employ across the entire supply chain, to analyze and
optimize plant design and existing infrastructure to maximize potential outputs eciently
and cost eectively.
FLOWNEX
PROVIDES THE
OIL & GAS
INDUSTRY WITH
THE ABILITY TO:
SIMULATION APPROACH
Flownex uses nodes and elements
to represent a thermal-uid network
graphically as shown (left).
Elements include pipes, pumps, valves, compressors or heat exchangers, while nodes are the end
points of elements. The elements are connected
at common nodes to form a network. Flownex
solves the momentum equation in each element
and the continuity and energy equation at each
node. This gives Flownex a pseudo CFD capability,
which allows it to predict complex phenomena
such as pressure and temperature waves in pipes
and buoyancy eects in packed beds.
CASE STUDY
PIPELINE
TRANSPORTATION
Oil and natural gas as well
as their rened products
need to be transported
from well to renery to
end consumer. This can be
done in a variety of ways
which include transporting by means of piping.
OIL TRANSPORTATION
Add to the design of loading/unloading facilities, optimize
for a variety of vessels, tank volumes, pump selection,
pipe sizing.
Valve station design as well as control philosophy optimization.
Oil tanker loading/unloading.
Determine pumping procedures.
Optimize valve settings for both on the ship and at the
onshore pumping and valve stations.
Determine water ballast pumping procedures in order
to maintain ship trim during the loading/unloading.
Flownex s Graphical User Interface can be coupled to
the simulation models and used for operator training as
well as on site scenario simulation.

FIRE PROTECTION
SYSTEMS
Flownex is capable of the following simulation
in Fire protection systems:
Flownex can be used for the design and
optimization of re protection systems.
Flownex allows easy modeling of the systems
using the standard component library.
Flownex designer can then be used for design
and optimization of the system.
The transient simulation capability can be
utilized to simulate dierent re protection
system operating scenarios.
Water hammer pressure reduction and cavitation
prevention.
Control of emergency sequence scenarios.
PRODUCTION
On a producing well, typically the completion
decision involves production casing being run
in, installation of well head and connection of a
Christmas tree (series of safety pressure valves,
ow controlling valves and instrumentation).
Depending on the type of reservoir formation
and reservoir drive , the extraction of the oil or
natural gas may be done using dierent methods.
GATHERING SYSTEM
CHRISTMAS TREE
Flownex is capable of the
following simulation on the
Christmas Tree:
Model Chocked ow conditions and simulate dierent
valve characteristics according to various manufacturer s
data. Including simulation of
pressure relief, pressure regulating and ow control valve
scenarios.
Model and address dynamic
pressure surges (water hammer)
resulting from valve closure/
opening or operation.
BLOWOUT
PREVENTER
(BOP)
Flownex is capable of the following simulation
in BOP systems:
Simulate blowouts and kicks to study dynamic
eect of surges and water hammer.
Simulate well kill process to overcome downhole pressure surges.
Analyze drilling mud return rate simulations, to
detect early warning signs of blowouts and kicks
and simulate the pressure release using BOP.

Flownex Simulation Environment enables engineers to predict, design and optimize for ow rates,
pressures, temperature and heat transfer rates in
uid systems. Such systems include anything from
ventilation systems and water and gas distribution
systems up to boiler designs and complete power
generation cycles.
We employ master s- and PhD-level qualied engineers to develop and support Flownex guiding you
on how to more eectively use our software tools
and maximize your return on investment.
