SAKURA

Cherry blossom or sakura


(Japanese) is one of many
trees that belongs to the
Rosacea family. Its
scientific name is Genus
prunus. It is one species
with plum tree and peach
tree, but it generally
classifies in subgenus
cherry blossom.
The flowers color depends
on its species. They are
white and a little pink, pale yellow, pink pale green, and light red.
Cherry blossom flowers are different in 3 categories based on their crown
leafs structure, they are:
Single flower with a layer crown leaf
Double flower with many layers crown leaf
Semi double flower
Characteristic of this plant is the flowers grow earlier than the
leaves. And the flowers grow in significant amounts. Because of that we
always conclude that cherry blossom doesn't have leaves.The
flowers always bloom and fall together with another one. It can only
survive for seven until ten days. Fall out of this flower depends on the
weather and the speed of the wind.

You can eat the petals and leaves of


sakura.After the petals and leaves undergo a process called shiozuke (),
which is soaking the subject into salt, you get sakurazuke (). Sakurazuke has a
distinctive smell. It is used to put on bread, or sakura mochi (), which is shown
in the image above. Sakura mochi is a Japanese treat, which is red bean curd either
completely or partly wrapped by pink-stained mochi. A sakurazuke leaf is wrapped
around this pink product. Sakura mochi is often eaten during the sakura season.

the sakurazuke of the flower, which is mentioned above, into a cup of hot water. This
is calledsakurayu (). Since the flower blooms inside the cup and looks
beautiful, sakurayu is often drunk at formal gatherings, such as weddings.

There's animal that really like to eat this plant, it is Pigeon. Pigeon really
likes it because the taste of this flower is sweet. Based on it's name,
cherry blossom can produces cherry. The color of this cherry is as same as
general cherry but the size is smaller than usual. Beside that, the taste of
this cherry is not good enough. So people not consume this cherry. We can
only feel it's beauty with have lunch and drink sake under it.
Cherry blossom tress blooms once a year in Honshu Island. The
flowers buds of the someiyoshino species begin visible in the end of
winter. The flowers start blooming in the end of march until the early of
April when the weather begins warm.
Besides China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, countries like the
Philippines, Canada and even the United States also have these flowers.
The Philippines do not have the exact flower, but it does resemble it. In
Vancouver, Canada there is a annual cherry blossoming festival held.
Germany also has a special orchid.
