Tim Duggan, Landscape Architect, Make It Right Foundation
Tim joined Make it Right after working five years in Kansas City for BNIM Architects. While at BNIM, Tim assisted in a variety of sustainable design projects ranging from streetscape to public art and urban renewal projects, small scale site design to large comprehensive master planned communities. He embraces sustainable design approaches for each new landscape he helps shape. He integrates a balanced approach for each of his projects and is an avid proponent of basic sustainable design principles that produce sound creative solutions. He has extensive understanding of innovative storm water management techniques such as rain gardens, wetlands and bioswales. Tim’s design process has evolved from his traditional Landscape Architecture and Planning education into extensive international experience in implementing sustainable landscape design. Tim takes advantage of a site’s opportunities and constraints in order to demonstrate ecologically sound alternatives from conventional practices. He is committed to promoting healthy, diverse landscapes by reestablishing natural systems and fusing functional needs with aesthetic forms. Tim has a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Regional Community Planning from Kansas State University, a Certificate in Community Planning and Design from Kansas State University, and has completed an International Course of Landscape Architecture, Wageningen University, Netherlands.
Frank Fromherz II, P.E., President of Fromherz Engineers, Inc.
Frank “Chuck” Fromherz is a licensed Civil and Environmental Engineer in Louisiana and Florida. Fromherz Engineers, Inc. was founded in 1867 by Mr. Fromherz’s great- great-grandfather and has operated as an engineering consulting organization since the mid-1930’s. The business altered its focus following Hurricane Katrina by shifting from public works consulting to a practice based on foundations and structural engineering for commercial and residential structures. Chuck has experience with modular structures, buildings that incorporate structural insulated panels and advanced framing techniques. Chuck received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Tulane University in 1970 and his M.E. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida in 1971. He was elected to Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honor fraternity, while at Tulane. He is a Life Member of the American Water Works Association, a past-president of the New Orleans Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a past-president of the Lafreniere Kiwanis Club. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U. S. Air Force and previously commanded the 926th Civil Engineer Squadron at Naval Air Station New Orleans.
Chip Henderson, President of Contects-Consultants & Architects
Chip graduated from the University of Texas School of Architecture in Austin and then attended the Solar Engineering program at Trinity University in San Antonio during the 1970’s. Chip Henderson and his wife, Debra, are founding partners of Contects – Consultants & Architects, a design-build firm in which their expertise in woodworking, building science and site ecology are combined to create enduring regional architecture. Since 2005, Chip has devoted more time developing his company’s role as a HERS Provider, working with the EPA Energy Star program, and as a USGBC LEED for Homes Provider, currently facilitating over 150 projects seeking LEED certification.
Dr. Elliot Horner, Director Air Quality Sciences’ Microbial Laboratory
Elliot Horner directs Air Quality Sciences’ ISO 17025 accredited microbial laboratory and also serves as a principal consultant with AQS’ Building Consulting Group. His research programs have included studies of mold development on building materials under various environmental conditions, including simulated water losses and studies on microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs). Elliott Horner is a recognized expert on fungal allergens; he also has managed aerobiology monitoring and research programs, conducted studies of mold growth on latex paint, characterized soil and root fungi in pine seed orchards and conducted field surveys of residential indoor air and assessments of microbial contamination in commercial buildings, schools and hospitals. Elliott Horner holds a Ph.D. in plant pathology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, an M.S. in mycology (study of fungi) from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, and a B.A. in botany/comparative literature from the University of North Carolina. After receiving his Ph.D., he completed an NIH funded fellowship characterizing fungal allergens at Tulane University School of Medicine before joining the research faculty in the Allergy/Clinical Immunology Section, where he established a bioaerosols and indoor mold research program. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional and holds a Healthcare Construction Certificate from the American Society of Healthcare Engineers.
Tony Mainsbridge, Edgefield Lumber
Tony started his formal training in the trade of carpentry in 1980 through an apprenticeship program with a prolific homebuilder in Melbourne, Australia. Soon after the completion of his training he was employed as a Construction Superintendent with the same homebuilder and then joined the largest construction company in Australia as a trainee estimator in their multifamily division. In 1986 Tony moved into the field of roof truss design and fabrication and further pursued this specialty after moving to the U.S. in 1988. Tony stepped back into residential housing framing in coastal Alabama in 1992, establishing his own business specializing in large, high-end custom home framing. In 1994 Tony incorporated another company as a General Contractor, building approximately 100 custom homes and office buildings along the Gulf Coast of Alabama. Tony has recently joined Edgefield Lumber Company, an exclusive manufacturer of BLUWOOD, as a Product Representative and Building Consultant. Over the years Tony has volunteered his time as a director with the Baldwin County Home Builders Association, a committee member for the City of Foley Construction Board of Appeals, and Committee Chairman of Baldwin County Habitat For Humanity for which he still serves as a committee member and construction team leader.
Pierre Moses, Make It Right Solar
Pierre Moses is the Solar Energy Coordinator within the construction department of Make It Right. Pierre is responsible for orchestrating all of the residential solar energy installations with hopes to advance the affordability and accessibility of solar technology in communities in and around the New Orleans area. Pierre has also been working as a Project Manager, leading a series of structural testing that Make It Right has implemented in conjunction with the University of New Orleans. He also coordinates post-occupancy asset management as well as assists in office operations with the foundation’s online communication database. Pierre developed an interest in entrepreneurial ventures within the non-profit sector while completing a bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston. Born and raised in New Orleans, Moses relishes the opportunity to benefit the lives of fellow residents by returning local families to the Lower 9th Ward.
Edward Stuart Perez, Owner, Comfort Engineered Systems, Inc.
A third-generation professional, Ed Perez’s career in HVAC&R spans more than three decades. Ed is one of the Owners of Comfort Engineered Systems, Inc. (CES, Inc.), headquartered in Jefferson Parish. Ed holds licenses in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida. CES, Inc., specializes in the design, service and installation of highly efficient HVAC systems in residential and light commercial applications. Over the course of his career, Ed has studied and worked in the United States, Central America and the Caribbean. Ed has a B.S. in Business Administration from Ferris State University, an A.S. in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Ferris State University and is N.A.T.E Certified.
Jon Sader, Make It Right Construction Director
Jon Sader is the Construction Director at Make It Right. Jon is a third generation contractor and developer from Michigan with construction experience ranging from custom homes to commercial buildings and multi-million dollar projects throughout the Mid-West. Jon witnessed the devastation caused by Katrina on television and was one of the first contractors to enter the city as soon as the floodwaters receded. Since that time he has been involved in the reconstruction of the city rebuilding homes, apartments and new housing. Jon brings with him a vast amount of expertise in stick-built, panelized and modular construction. He has pioneered innovations in the modular home industry and is dedicated to the concept of affordable housing. Jon’s background in the construction of environmentally friendly housing and breadth of experience as a business owner, developer, contractor and innovator bring invaluable impact to the vision and mission of Make It Right.
William Turner, President of Turner Building Science & Design
Mr. Turner has 30 years of experience in the implementation of indoor air quality/HVAC evaluation and engineering HVAC/building science diagnostic programs evaluations in school, commercial, health care, laboratory, residential, and industrial settings. Experience includes HVAC performance, occupant complaint, and building science / moisture evaluations, air monitoring data collection, quality assurance, technical report preparation, forensics/expert witness, and specific recommendations for corrective action. Mr. Turner manages a group of six experienced mechanical engineers and building scientists whose main responsibilities involve conducting indoor air quality, HVAC, energy, and building science evaluations in complaint and non-complaint buildings. He and his staff conduct evaluations nationally and recommend appropriate mitigation as warranted. Design of corrective measures or evaluation and design of new sustainable “green” designs area also provided when requested.
