Onewayofdoingit,usingalltemplatesinaselfcreatedcustomtemplatefolder,
partsanddrawingsseparated,withpartpropertieslinkedtothedrawing.UsingNX

Partproperties
Startwithastandardoremptyfilethepropertieswindowcanbeaccessedthrough
File>PropertiesanddesirablevariablesareassignedundertheAttributestab.
OneinterestingpropertyisMATERIAL,thevalueisautomaticallyupdatedwhen
thepartmaterialisaltered,theresanalternativewayoflinkingCustomproperties
hastobechangedmanually.Ablankspaceisrecommendedinsteadofanempty
value,duetoissueswhenaccessingemptynotesinthedrawing.
Savetheparttothefoldertonewcustomtemplateswhenallpropertiesareadded.
Thedrawingtemplatecanbecreatedfromdefaultdrawingtemplates,orablank
one.Someofthegraphicobjectsareplacedinlockedlayersofthedrawing,and
canbeunlockedthroughFormat>LayerSettingsbyuncheckingtheVisibleonly
boxinfrontofthelayers(255and256Siemensdefaultlayersforbackground
structure).Afterthelinesandboxeshavebeenmovedaroundandthechanging
withtheappearanceuntillyourhappy.

Eitheranewnoteiscreatedoranalreadyexistingismodified(doubleclickit),
whichresultsinthearrivalofyetanotherwindow.UnderthetitleTextInputthe
textandlinkagetoothervariablesisdone.BychangingtheCategory(eitherdrop
downlistoriconsdirectlyunderthetextbox)toRelationships,threewaysof
connectingvariablesarepresented.TheInsertPartAttributesseemstoreferonlyto
propertiesinsidethedrawingitself,andInsertExpressionisnotgoodforthiskind
ofconnection.TheInsertObjectAttributehoweverismoresuitabletothetask.
WhenclickingitthepromptedforTargetObjectshouldbethepartalreadyinserted
inthedrawing,whichcanbeanypart(ifdrawingisempty,justinsertarandom
part),butthetrickistoselectthepartintherightway.

Todothisandavoidselectinguninterestingobjectsinthedrawing,likeframesand
displayviews,thepartshouldbetargetedthroughtheAssemblyNavigatortabon
thelefthandside,wheretheinsertedpartshouldappearasaninstanceattheendof
thesmallitemhierarchy.Selectingitshouldresultintheappearanceofasmalllist
ofthepartpropertiesthatwherepreviouslycreated.
AfterapropertyhasbeenchosenatextstringwillbegeneratedintheTextInput
field.Itshouldsaysomethinglike,wherethefivedigitnumberrepresentaunique
idforthechosenobject(thepart).Thisnumberislaterautomaticallyreplaced
whenthedrawingistreatedasatemplate,sowhenalldesiredpropertieshavebeen
linkedintheirnotesalloverthedrawingtheonlyremainingthingtodoistosave
thedrawinginthenewlycreatedcustomtemplatesdirectory.
Thematerialvariablecanhoweveralsobeaccessedthroughapredefinedlink,
togetherwithafewotherthatmightcomeinhandy.Othercustompropertiesfrom
thepartarenotthatlucky,andhastobelinkedinthewaydescribedabove.

customdirectorywithonlymodelanddrawingtemplates,onlythe
ugs_model_templates.paxandtheugs_drawing_templates.paxfileshastobe

copiedtothecustomtemplatefolder,andcanbefoundintheC:\Program\UGS\NX
7.5\UGII\templatesdirectory(defaultinstallation).Inthosefilesasection
containing:

hastobemodfied.Thevariablesid,name,description,unitsandfilenameshould
beeditedtopointatthedesiredtemplatefileforeachentry.Unwantedentries
shouldberemoved,aslongasthecodeatthestartandendofthepaxfileremains.
TostartupNxwithacustomtemplatesfolderabatchfile(.bat)withthe
environmentvariableUGII_TEMPLATE_DIRsettothedesiredfolder.Presuming
defaultinstallationlocationthefollowingthreelinesshouldbesufficientfora
workingbatchfiletostartNX7.5withacustomtemplatesfolder.
setUGII_TEMPLATE_DIR=C:\CustomTemplatesFolder
cdC:\Program\UGS\NX7.5\UGII
callugraf.exe
Thisfoldershouldthenbepopulatedbythetemplatefilesandthecorresponding
paxfiles(.pax).Examplesofbothtemplatesandpaxfilescanbefoundinthe
C:\Program\UGS\NX7.5\UGII\templatesdirectory.
Thisshouldbeaworkingsetofhomemadedrawingtemplatesreadyforcreations.
