EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Nowadays, financial institutions, specifically banking, leasing, financing &
investing institutions, are expanding their corporate exposure through retail
operations as a new dimension. Corporate retail business of these institutions
depends largely on proper handling of these retail products and services
operations. For that reason, the financial institutions have taken many
promotional activities on both internal and external grounds. Here these activities
are arranged within ten distinct measurable retail activities such as Retail savings
products(various deposit schemes such as DPS, monthly benefit, education
savings, deposit double etc.), Retail consumer credit schemes(such as car loan,
home loan, personal loan, educational loan, travel loan, loan against salary, lease
etc.), SME(small and medium enterprise) products, Evening banking/service of
this institution, Electronic business/ Electronic banking, Online banking/service,
Research and development on retail products , IT development for maintaining
the records of those retail products, Agricultural and rural credit policy and
Different card services(such as ATM card, Credit card etc.). In this report we are
writing about the retail banking system of Prime Bank Ltd. Here we discussed the

1.1 Introduction of the Report


This report is prepared based on retail banking system of Prime Bank Ltd. Retail banking is
when a bank executes transactions directly with consumers, rather than corporations or other
banks. Services offered include savings and transactional accounts, mortgages, personal loans,
debit cards, and credit cards. The term is generally used to distinguish these banking services
from investment banking, commercial banking or wholesale banking. It may also be used to
refer to a division of a bank dealing with retail customers and can also be termed as Personal
Banking services.
So, retail banking is the banking services that are offered to individual customers through local
branches of the bank. Examples of retail banking services include checking and savings
accounts, credit cards, personal lines of credit, mortgages etc. Across the globe, retail lending
has been a spectacular innovation in the commercial banking sector in recent years. The
growth of retail lending, especially, in emerging economies, is attributable to the rapid
advances in information technology.

2.1 Historical Background of the Prime Bank Ltd.

Prime Bank Limited is a scheduled commercial Bank under private sector established within
the ambit of Bank Company Act, 1991 and was incorporated as a Public Limited Company

under Companies Act, 1994 on February 12, 1995. The Bank started commercial banking
operations from April 17, 1995 with the inauguration of the Bank's Motijheel Branch at 119120, Motijheel Commercial Area. A huge public response has enabled the Bank to keep up the
plan of expanding its network. Within a span of ten years the bank has been able to deliver

services to its customers through thirty-seven branches. In terms of profitability the bank has
outperformed its peer banks. The Bank achieved operating profit of Tk.3,481 million
(Consolidated Tk.3,775 million) during the half-year ended on June 30, 2013.

As a fully licensed commercial bank, Prime Bank Ltd. is being managed by a highly professional

and dedicated team with long experience in banking. Prime Bank Ltd. offers all kinds of
Commercial Corporate and Personal Banking services covering all segments of society within

the framework of Banking Company Act and rules and regulations laid down by our central
bank. Diversification of products and services include Corporate Banking, Retail Banking and
Consumer Banking right from industry to agriculture, and real state to software.
The importance of financial intermediaries in the development of the overall economy of
country cannot be described in short. From the inception of the civilization the banking sector

dominate the economic development of a country by mobilizing the saving from the general
people and channeling those saving for investment and thus economic development and
growth.
Within a short time the bank has been successful in positioning itself as progressive and
dynamic financial institution in the country. This is now widely acclaimed by the business

community, from small entrepreneur to big merchant and conglomerates, including top rated
corporate and foreign investors, for modern and innovative ideas and financial solution. Thus

within this short time it has been able to create an unique image for itself and earned
significant solution in the banking sector of the country as a bank with a difference.
Prime Bank has already made significant progress within a very short period of its existence.
The bank has been graded as a top class bank in the country through internationally accepted

CAMELS rating. The bank has already occupied an enviable position among its competitors
after achieving success in all areas of business operation.

3.2.2 Current Account

Prime Bank brings the ultimate trust, security and convenience in Current Account in Taka
which can be freely deposited and withdrawn. At the time of opening, this account is also
accompanied by a Special Notice Deposit (SND) account.

Customer Benefit of Current Account:


The customer of current accounts is getting the same benefit of savings account.

Documents required for Current Account:


If any customer wants to open current accounts than they have to submit some important
documents as like savings account. Such as Completed account opening form.
Passport size photograph for each account holder.
Proof of identification such as national/voter's ID, passport or driving license.

Double Benefit Deposit Scheme:


The deposit scheme shall be issued for 6 years 6 months term.

After 6 years 6 months, terminal value will stand at Tk. 2 lacs from the initial fixed
deposit of Tk. 1 lac.

Minimum deposit is Tk. 10,000/- and multiples thereof with no ceiling on the upper
limit at a time will be acceptable under this scheme.

Monthly Benefit Deposit Scheme:


This is a Deposit Scheme where the depositor gets a fixed
amount of profit every month without disturbance of the
principal.
Deposit of Tk. 100,000.00 and multiples thereof and
maximum Tk. 25.00 lac shall be acceptable for the Scheme.
Profit shall be paid on monthly basis @ Tk. 947 per Tk. 100,000.00 for 1 year & 2 year
tenor, .@ Tk. 954 per Tk. 100,000.00 for 3 year tenor, @ Tk. 958 per Tk. 100,000.00
for 5 year & 7 year tenor, @ Tk. 1000 per Tk. 100,000.00 for 10 year tenor.
The Deposit shall be for a period of 1/2/3/5/7/10 years. The Principal amount is
refundable on maturity.

House Building Deposit Scheme:


The tenor of the House Building Deposit Scheme will be 5/7/10 years.
Minimum Equity building amount shall be Tk. 10.00 lac and maximum
amount shall be 20 lac.
HBL facility shall be considered on maturity upon application up to three
times the equity but not exceeding Tk. 50.00 lac on compliance of loan
formalities.

Education Savings Scheme:

The instrument shall be issued for 5 years.


Deposit of Tk. 50,000/- and multiples thereof and maximum
Tk. 5.00 lac at a time will be accepted under the Scheme.

Lakhopati Deposit Scheme:


The tenor of the Lakhopati Deposit Scheme will be 3/5/10/15 years.
Monthly installment shall be Tk. 2,400.00 /Tk. 1,285.00 /Tk. 500.00/Tk. 250.00 for the
tenor of 3/5/10/15 years respectively.
Terminal amount on maturity shall be Tk. 1.00 lac.

Prime Millionaire Scheme:


Monthly installment shall be Tk. 12,050.00 /Tk. 7,500.00 /Tk. 4,215.00/Tk. 3,015.00 for
the tenor of 5/7/10/12 years respectively
Terminal amount on maturity shall be Tk. 10.00 lac.

Contributory Savings Scheme:


The Deposit shall be for a period of 5 years.
Minimum size of monthly installment shall be Tk. 500/- and
multiplies of Tk. 1000/-. Maximum installment size shall be
Tk. 24,000/.
Loan may be allowed up to 80% of the deposited amount

against lien on the same after at least 2 (Two) years of regular payment of installments
and minimum limit of the loan shall be Tk. 50,000/-.

Account 150%:
Deposit will be estimated 1.5 times of the initial deposit.
The tenure of the investment period will be 3 years and 5 months.
Minimum deposit amount BDT. 10,000.00.
Any amount in multiple of BDT. 10,000.00 will be allowed to invest in the scheme.
Any amount equivalent to 1 crore or more will be provided special incentives such as
free Platinum card, internet banking facilities, free ATM Card etc.

4.1 Findings

Retail banking is the cluster of products and services that banks provide to consumers and
small businesses through branches, the internet, and other channels. And each of these play an
important role to measure the growth of retail banking. Prime Bank Limited has strengthened
its credit portfolio management through diversification of its investment among the different
industries. This bank always concerned with the customer satisfaction and they are trying their
best to provide the best retail services to their customer. Prime Bank has wide range of retail
bank services for their customer.

4.2 Recommendations
Prime Bank Limited has been successful in all of its operation since its inception. It has
outperformed all its peer and competitor and peer banks in virtually all area of its activities.
Still there is scope for improvement for the bank. So, there are some recommendation for this
bank. Such as The bank can increase its retail credit loan by allowing credit to more customers. This
can be possible through relaxation of credit norms like waiver of guarantee from third
parties.
Limit of Credit Card facility should be increased.
More information about the retail products and their benefit should be provided to the
customer properly.
Prime Bank should provide all retail banking service so that customer can connect with
the bank.
