Methodology
A. Strategies
I.
Identification of Strategies
Health education with the purpose of positively influencing the health behaviour of
individuals is the strategy of choice for the respondents of Block 25, St. Peter II,
Dasmarias City, Cavite. Upon investigation, the main health problem identified was the
high prevalence of hypertension among the residents. Therefore, the focus of the health
education will be on the increasing awareness on the cause, risk factors, symptoms and
effects of hypertension, as well as reinforcing appropriate practices for the prevention and
control of hypertension. In line with this, giving of lectures, small group discussions and
pamphlets will be utilized for the health education.
The WHO criteria of (1) Potential impact, (2) potential scope, (3) feasibility, and (4)
social acceptability were taken into consideration for the selection of the most appropriate
method to approach the cause of the priority problem which were amenable to change.
II.
Prioritization of Strategies
The learning strategy chosen to be utilized for the residents of St. Peter II,
Dasmarinas City Cavite will be a lecture type of learning strategy to be made possible by
holding a big group lecture and pamphlet distribution.
providing lectures are efficient means to transfer knowledge and concepts to large groups
as it can be used to stimulate the interest, explain the concepts and provide core
knowledge and direct learning.
The lecture which will be requiring the active participation of the residents and the
visual aids will be used to aid in relaying the information to the participants and this will
show the aforementioned points to be discussed regarding hypertension. Pamphlet
distribution after the session will aid the participants in having a review on the basics
principles on knowledge and practices regarding hypertension. The advantage of giving out
pamphlets is that it will be available for the participants to read during their free time.
For the social concern, both big group lecture and pamphlet distribution are effective
means to get the attention of participants as well as achieving the objective of the group
which is to impart knowledge on hypertension. In the interview conducted, the respondents
showed a very good attitude about learning more of hypertension and this project is
expected to give positive outcomes after its implementation.
Video presentation will not be used because there will be more equipment needed
and is not feasible for the available resources.
