I believe that the standards are in place to ensure students acquire the skills that are
necessary to be successful in furthering education, beyond the high school level. Many
times, school districts look at the national standards and adapt those standards to meet
the individual needs of the district. It is important that an educator take the standards
and objectives and align them to ensure students are receiving a well rounded quality
education. This alignment also allows the educator to have a goal and specific intention
when teaching. This keeps lessons focused and allows teachers to be knowledgeable
in the content that is taught. It also allows for differentiation to meet individual student
needs.
