Recording Amp Guitar

Hello my name is Wilfredo Gonzalez. Im from Venezuela- Barquisimeto. I don`t know

English, only the necessary, but I`m doing all my effort to pass down of the correct
way my objective. I`m very happy in participate in this course, and I hope to achieve
a full knowledge of the Introduction of the Musical Production. I will talk about some
ways of to record an electric guitar with an output transducer (Amplifier), in the
first lesson of the week.
To record a guitar with amplifier in an acoustic room, we affront to natural acoustic
of the speakers. A simple speaker is directional and show characteristics of different
frequency to different angles and distances.
Understand, how they work the frequency of an amplifier of the guitar it is no easy,
but it is very important. The center of the cone generates frequencies more high and
the exterior of cone generates frequencies more low.

High

Low

Therefore, as we move away the microphone of the center the cone, we have more
low frequencies. However as we approached the microphone to the center of the
cone, our tone will be more high.
There are methods to give balances tones; neither so neither high nor low to
different applications. Example, someone plays jazz could prefer a tone more low,
while a person plays punk could prefer some of a little more high. Thus, it is easier
handle the recollected information through of our software.

The most common way to do this is with a condenser microphone in front of the
speaker. The use of the unidirectional microphones for capturing close also improves
rejection of sounds from off-axis. All these elements reduce the posibility the
chance of feedback.

There are different positions to the capturing of the speaker sound. Frequently the
use of the positioning microphones near and far (more to 30cm) both can record a
sound with a controllable balance between presence and environment
The sweet point is the most frequent. In this position is capturing a good balance of
the amplifier (low and high). It is relative, each other has a sweet point different in
the speaker depending of the sound that you want to have.

Sweet
point

The designated spot in the speaker indicated the sweet point; here there is a balance
of the high and low outputs because this almost in the middle both of them.
This recording technique is useful for recording sound in unisons, one, or guitar in
which one note sounds at a time (as in some variants of country and blues, or jazz)
However, to rhythm guitars, in the music rock and the metal, is recommended to
recording with two microphones or more to have a sense of how sound the amplifier
into an acoustic room.

Recording with two microphones:

The first microphone was mentioned previously, it is in the sweet point. It may be a
Shure SM57, (dynamic microphone). It is very important that this slightly sideways.
This is done to prevent sound waves (which are air movements), make sure the
microphone is saturated. This allows working at higher volumes without sacrificing
tone.
The second microphone is located around de one meter away of the amplifier and it is
not a dynamic microphone, if a capacitor. This develops a complete sound of how
sound an amplifier into an acoustic room and provides a more realistic sound. We could
use the Audio Technica AT2020. This model supports SPL (Sound Pressure Level), of
more than 150 decibels this means that we can use higher volume.

Reflexion
Recording with guitar connected directly to the interface is a good technique.
However, is vital to know the techniques of recording from an amplifier. In this way,
we can get different textures and timbres of a guitar for various applications.
