ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
The speaker at this year’s Graham Gilmer
Memorial Bible Conference is Dr. Derek
Thomas, the John E. Richards Professor of
Systematic and Practical Theology at Reformed
Theological Seminary (RTS) in Jackson,
Mississippi. Originally from Wales, Dr. Thomas
is a 1978 graduate of RTS, and subsequently
earned a Ph.D. from the University of Wales.
Dr. Thomas returned to the USA in 1996 to
teach at RTS. He also serves as the Minister of
Teaching at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
Derek Thomas has authored or edited 15 books,
including Calvin’s Teaching on Job: Proclaiming
the Incomprehensible God; Making the Most of
Your Devotional Life, based on the Ascent
Psalms; and Praying the Savior’s Way, based on
the Lord’s Prayer.
Dr. Thomas has contributed commentaries to a
variety of series, including Let’s Study Revelation
(Banner of Truth) and Let’s Study Galatians
(Banner of Truth; God Delivers: Isaiah Simply
Explained (Evangelical Press), The Storm Breaks:
Job Simply Explained (Evangelical Press), and God
Strengthens: Ezekiel Simply Explained (Evangelical
Press). He also co-edited Give Praise to God: A
Vision for Reforming Worship (P&R).
Derek Thomas also serves as the Editorial
Director of The Alliance of Confessing
Evangelicals and as editor of its “ezine”,
Reformation 21. He has been married to his wife,
Rosemary, for almost 30 years. They have two
adult children, Ellen and Owen.

CONFERENCE THEME
This year’s conference theme, “Deliver Us from
Evil,” examines what the Bible teaches about
the Christian’s ongoing battle against evil and
“the Evil One.” Dr. Thomas’s talks will
address the reality of evil, the reality of Satan,
and the reality of temptation, as well as God’s
provision for His people, which enables us to
resist and overcome the temptations we all
face today. The conference is meant to help
us, as 21st-century Christians, to understand
the source and nature of temptation, and also
to equip us to “fight the good fight” more
effectively.
