Brochure
Description: Tri-fold brochure for imaginary wedding invitation business
Programs used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign
Date: December 6, 2015
Course # & Section: COMM 130 Section 4
Instructor name: Ben Pingel
Objective:
PART 1 Improve chances for employment by showing your work in a professional
portfolio that allows future modification.
PART 2 Improve projects for inclusion in portfolio.
PART 3 Present and share your portfolio.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): A unique, original logo was made in Adobe
Illustrator using a monochromatic color scheme. The Logo was then brought into
Adobe Indesign to put on the brochure. The brochure was made on an 8.5 x 11 layout
and split into thirds. The picture of the couple on the inside of the brochure was brought
into Photoshop and by using the quick selection tool, the couple was cut out of the
background picture. The selection was saved and then brought into Indesign as well.
The text was formatted to wrap around the picture. The paragraphs inside the brochure
also had specific paragraph settings applied to them. After all was added to Indesign
the brochure was printed, checked for margins and folded into thirds.

Logo
Description: Logo made for a software company in Arizona
Programs used: Adobe Indesign
Date: October 31, 2015
Course # & Section: COMM 130 Section 4
Instructor name: Ben Pingel
Objective:
Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that
will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals
most to them.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fabricated
flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a
guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Refine one logo with variations for color
Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to create all of the logos. To create the mountain and
canyon effect I used the triangle shape tool and then altered the anchor points to make
the shapes fit. I downloaded a font from dafont.com so that I didnt use any overused
fonts. I took the colors straight from the color wheel to make the correct color scheme.

Select good quality images
Process : I used Photoshop to create the different layering effect. Masking, quick

Flier
Description: Flier for Graduate Leadership Conference
Programs used: Adobe Indesign
Date: October 2, 2015
Course # & Section: COMM 130 Section 4
Instructor name: Ben Pingel
Objective:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in
InDesign intact.
Process: Adobe InDesign and Photoshop were used to create this flier. The Vouant
Communication logo was black to begin with but I brought it into Photoshop to invert
the colors for a nice gestalt look on top of the black bar. I brought this feel into the
design of the heading. I created a black circle and brought the letter G into it and
made it black for a dramatic eye catching effect. I also kept the circle theme with the
circles in between the header font and the circle underneath the picture.
