'2001: A Spiritualized Odyssey' was begun as an endeavor of The

Almighty Sound in March 2008. Certain limitations were set by the band at the
project's outset. They included not altering the film's images at all, using only
the music of the band Spiritualized, and altering their songs as little as possible.
The goals of the project were threefold: to make a worthwhile and valid
film marrying the original movie with the music as well as was possible, to give
a copy to Jason Pierce, the man behind Spiritualized, and to, if possible,
distribute copies of the film to friends and fans of the band and the film at no
cost, all the while encouraging fans to purchase the commercially available
works of Spiritualized and Stanley Kubrick, director and co-writer of '2001: A
Space Odyssey'.
After 6 months of work, the film was completed. Shortly thereafter, PXL
met with Mr. Pierce after a Spiritualized show on their tour supporting
Spiritualized's new album, 'Songs in A & E'. Mr. Pierce gladly accepted a copy
of the film and verbally agreed to allow The Almighty Sound to distribute copies
however they saw fit without accepting any monetary compensation.
The Sound then had to decide how to best distribute and promote the
film. It was already determined that it had to be freely distributed, but also that
it should be as accessible to the general public as possible. Another desire of
the Sound was to maintain the quality and integrity of the original film as closely
as possible. While both were not possible with any single format, they decided
to create several formats and allow viewers to choose which worked best for
their individual viewing situation. To that end, a total of 5 versions were
produced. Those versions were uploaded to the BitTorrent networks and made
available for free download. The film was also uploaded to Google Video and
the Internet Archive in its entirety, as well as being split up into several smaller
YouTube-compatible segments.
The versions uploaded to the BitTorrent network include the following
versions:

1. Dual Layer DVD-Video .iso (NTSC)

2. Dual Layer DVD-Video .iso (PAL)
3. High Quality .mpg
4. High Quality .mp4
5. iPod/iPhone Video .mp4

Each format is suited to a specific player, i.e. if you are in a region that
uses NTSC video standards for DVD, download the NTSC ISO file and burn the
ISO image to a Dual Layer (8.5 GB) DVD (same goes for PAL) (To find out which
format your country uses as a standard, refer to the map at the end of this
document). If you wish to view the film on your iPod or iPhone, download the
MP4 version. If you wish to view the film on your computer, download the High
Quality MP4 version. For the highest quality computer screen viewing
experience, though, it is recommended that you download the MPEG-2 (.mpg)
version and view it with VLC Media Player, available free of charge at
www.videolan.org/vlc/. VLC Media Player works on every platform and will play
nearly any format of audio or video.
During the initial screening process, The Almighty Sound developed the
perfect companion for viewing the film in a new alcoholic beverage that you can
make yourself, fittingly called a 'Spaceman'. The following is a recipe:

One (1) glass of TANG ®.

Add your choice of Vodka to taste.
Serve chilled or over ice.

Mixing with other medications

while viewing the film may cause a
ridiculously good experience.

Enjoy in Moderation.
No Prescription required.
Please spread the word about this film project anyway that you can. Blog
about it, talk to friends and fans about it, post in forums online, burn copies and
give them away, or post an entry on Wikipedia. Any help at all is welcome.
Viewing parties are encouraged. This film was not meant to exist in an
insular vacuum. It is meant to be a social experience. Have viewing parties in
your city or town and invite those that might be interested. And if you do have a
gathering, please take pictures of your viewing party and post them online or e-
mail them to the band.
The Almighty Sound has filed no copyright for this film project and would
like to encourage everyone to freely distribute the film without accepting profit.
Also encouraged is the purchase of the commercially available works of
Spiritualized and Stanley Kubrick by those that enjoy the film.

Again, feel free to contact us at any time with questions regarding this project
and others. Until then...
