Constructedintheyear1933,theshippingcanalpassesthroughvarioussmallerwaterbodiesbefo
finallyemergingintotheBalticSea.Althoughanimportantnavigationconduct,thecanal
howeverisntsuitableformerchantshipsvesselswithlargerdimensionsandspecifications.

2.RhineMainDanubeCanal:LinkingthreeimportantriversintheheartofWesternEurope,theRhine

DanubeCanalortheEuropaCanalwasoriginallybuiltasearlyasthe1938s.Overtheyearsthere

beenseveralconstructionalextensionsthathavebeenmadetothecanal,thelastonebeingcarrie
intheearly1990s.

TheEuropaCanalisamajormarinetransportationgatewaylinkingtheNorthSeatotheBlackSea
theAtlanticOcean.ItisalsoanimportantshippinggatewaywithinEurope.

3.SuezCanal:TheSuezCanalisanextremelycrucialandfamousshippingcanalallowingthepass

vesselsbetweentheMediterraneanandtheRedSea.

thoughtheconstructionofthepresentdayKielwaterconduitbeganonlyduringthelate1890s.

UsingtheshippingcanalallowsvesselstobypassthelongerroutethatpassesviaDenmark(penin
ofJutland),whichisregardedtoquiteanunstablemaritimeroute.

6.HoustonShipCanal:MainlyutilisedtoprovidepassageofshipsenteringtheHoustonharbourinto

GulfofMexico,theHoustonShipCanal,isavitalwaterconduitintheinternalUnitedStates.

Althoughoccurringnaturally,theshippingcanalhasbeenbroadenedinordertoensureitscontinu
viability.TheHoustonShipCanalhasbeeninexistenceandoperationsincethemid1830s.

7.PanamaCanal:Oneofthemostcrucialmaritimegatewaysinthewesternregion,thePanamaCan

providesconnectivitybetweenthePacificandtheAtlanticOceanthroughthePanamaisthmus.
