Mathematics of investment is a 3 unit course which primarily deals with money transactions associated with interest and time. This course
equips the students with the mathematical tools needed in the practical applications of mathematical concepts in finance as well as to increase the students
competence in the mathematical analysis and computations of financial problems and stimulates them to look into situations that will enable wise planning and
handling of prospective earnings.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the semester, the students must have:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Identified various types of investment problems;

Solved financial problems involving simple interest, simple discounts, and compound interest, correctly;
Applied the concepts of annuities in business transactions; and
Solved problems on extinction of debts with the use of the amortization or sinking fund method.
Developed critical thinking in making plans & decisions wisely and realize how important time is in investment;
