Two new patterns, Wewood and Herringbone, have now been added
to the Freewood designs that were presented in 2012: Antolini has
expanded its Woodstone Collection combining the natural and the
artificial to enrich surfaces with unique, elegant solutions.
The unique features of stone, the dimensions of the individual elements
and different laying schemes can create an infinite range of different
designs and compositions, generated by combining modules and
shapes differing in geometry and colour. The Woodstone Collections
versatility permits creation of countless elegant, linear effects.
The new Wewood texture is identified by an interwoven decoration
combining different shapes (rectangles and squares) and finishes.
The rectangular patterns have a lether finish, while the square ones
have a polished finish. Herringbone is clearly recognisable, with its
traditional pattern in which single rectangular elements, all the same
size, are placed at 90 to one another.

laminam
A valuable tool in the hands of planners, architects and designers, a thin
sheet of essential dimensional rigour in which to design contemporary spaces
without sacrificing any of the warmth and material qualities of a texture with
an old-fashioned flavour, of fine, elegant patterns: Laminam ceramic tiles are
the distinctive feature and the essence of a company that has made big tile
production its mission. Technology and creativity applied to a three metre
square surface, marking a path, telling a story, anticipating a trend. From
wall coverings to floors, from ventilated faades to interior design and creation
of fittings and furnishings: in 2001 Laminam revolutionised surfaces with its
thin, ultralight 1000x3000 tile, and now it continues to amaze with a range
of 100 ceramic surfaces perfected in recent years, promising to go even
further in the future...

thin surface which is at the same time extremely strong has taken the
technologies normally used in ceramics to an extreme.
Such a virtuous process could only originate with top quality raw
materials capable of guaranteeing homogeneous composition and the
absence of any impurities. Clay, feldspar and sand, all of European
origin, are constantly monitored before being mixed together in the
right quantities and water is added to them to create what is called
slurry. This fluid, malleable compound is then blown through atomisers
under pressure, with a flow of hot air at 340/400C eliminating
excess water, leaving only enough moisture in the mix to ensure that
it can be formed and moulded (about 5%). The atomised substance
thus obtained, with the addition of pigments for colouring, is stored
in sealed one-ton cells in a vertical warehouse of great capacity, from
which they are taken as needed for the tile production cycle. This
warehouse, 120m long and 22m high, is used to store both atomised
material and finished tiles.
The most immediately striking aspect of the warehouse is that the
conveyor belts are very much shorter than usual, so that the material
takes very little time to travel along them, avoiding unnecessary
exposure to any impurities that may be in the air. Finished tiles are
also handled by automatic trolleys that rationalise their route to reduce
the risk of damage or breakage.
The atomised material is then applied to belts in the right size and
thickness and pressed; great precision is essential to dose the right
quantity of material, as transformation from atomised material to
compressed tile is a very delicate phase of great importance in tile
creation. Pressing takes place in a Compatter (15,000t or 26,000t)
which represents a further evolution of and improvement over
conventional presses in terms of load, repeatability and, above all,
energy consumption. The material travels continuously between two
belts, considerably reducing the internal stress that would be caused
different cultures both near and far, willing to draw on images and
contaminations from other artistic disciplines, Laminam investigates the
infinite expressions of the material and continues to study the new and
unusual.
This is demonstrated, by example, in the extraordinary project
conducted in partnership with the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in
Florence to create the Pietra Paesina collection. The desire for
dialogue with this valuable cultural institution dating back to the days
of the Medici family testifies to Laminams pursuit of its mission of
focusing on the future of surfaces and architecture without forgetting
its past, but rather drawing on this history and keeping it alive. Work
with the Alberese stone found in the bed of the River Arno brings a
forgotten material back to life and offers a contemporary version of
it, using extraordinary digital technology to improve on the stains of
colour characterising the stone, amplifying their effect and enhancing
the resulting image of a rocky landscape.
The same focus on detail resulting from the talent for observation of
everything around us distinguishes all Laminams collections. From
Filo, a product for interior design inspired by the image of a thread
repeated to infinity in a series of weaves until it blends into a fabric,
to Linfa, a design inspired by wood, a living, vibrant material with new
dimensions and finishes; from Blend, representing one of Laminams
basic collections with its strongly material flavour and graphics
recalling dimpled cement, to Oxide, recreating the effect of metal that
has reacted to atmospheric agents, sunshine and time. And ending
with Andy, the product of a meeting with young Japanese designer
Michio Narumiya, presenting a strong three dimensional character and
a bold graphic mark with an iridescent texture in which light underlines
material depth, creating refined, surprising variations in hue.
The perfect flatness of the tiles means that Laminam can be used not
only in traditional applications such as floor and wall coverings but
