Pow-R-Command 5000
Building Automation Controller
General overview
The Pow-R-Command 5000 Building Automation
Controller (PRC5000) is a state-of-the-art controller
for every aspect of your building and process
operations. The PRC5000 is a Web-enabled device
that communicates TCP/IP and has a Linux-based
operating system for secure operations. The controller has canned and custom Web pages that can
be viewed with a standard Internet browser. In
this Web page interface, the building can be monitored and manually controlled.

Network philosophy
The PRC5000 has an Ethernet connection used
for programming and Web page connection. The
PRC5000 has two local unitary networks. Each
supports up to 120 devices. Unitary Ethernet
Interface modules (UEI) can be used to connect
13 additional networks to the PRC5000 with up
to 120 devices controlled on each.

Device specifications

The PRC5000 can be used as the master device on the various

Pow-R-Command device RS-485 networks, including the PRC100,
PRC1000, PRC2000, and PRC4000 lighting control system
controllers. The PRC5000 controller also utilizes control cards
called Universal Unitary Controllers (UUCs) connected on its RS-485
network. These UUCs are used to control many different machines
and devices. The controller cards are mounted locally in each
apparatus, which accepts dry-contact and analog level inputs to
monitor status of the machine/device, and supplies dry-contact and
analog level outputs to control different aspects of the machine/
device. These controller cards can be programmed to use the inputs
and control the outputs in numerous ways. HVAC control, conveyor
system, or point-of-use control for pneumatic or electrical systems
can be controlled by monitoring the inputs. These inputs are used in
logical calculations to control outputs, which can also be controlled
by time-of-day scheduling programmed into the control card.

The PRC5000 is a 24 Vac device with: one RJ45 Ethernet port,

two separate RS485 networks, one serial connection, and two USB
connections for future functionality (Figure 7). The controller also
has a 15 Vdc supply for peripheral devices.
On the left side of the controller below the 24V connector is the
power LED, indicating the presence of power on the controller bus
(Figure 5). Just below the power indicator is the Status LED that
indicates the status of the controller. Normal status is blinking
once per second; Fault status is represented by a solid on or off
state of the LED.
