PROCEDURE:
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Settling Down
Prepare the class by asking students to arrange their chairs and to pick up any piece of paper
scattered on the floor; check room ventilation making sure that is set to bodys normal
temperature, and that classroom is free from any noise or other disturbances.
2. Review/Drill
A. Post a grid and the following points on the board. Ask 4 volunteers to plot the points using
the grid.
A(4,3)
B(-2,5)
C (0,2)
D(3,4)
B. Using a number line as shown below, ask 3 volunteers to find the length of each of the
following segments.

5.

AB

6. BD

7. CD

Ask: How did you get the length?

C. Unlocking Difficulties
Play the Tanong Mo, Gets Ko game. In this game, a set of 5 questions will be flashed
on the screen, and all students will be given an equal opportunity to guess the answer for
every question. The correct answers will give students the idea on what the topic is all
about and the important terms associated with it.
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
- Group students into 5. Each group shall be composed of a leader, presenter,
documenter and members.
- With a laptop connected to class wireless connection, ask each group to log on to
http://www.ixl.com/math/geometry/distance-formula and

https://braingenie.ck12.org/skills/106928 . But before beginning the activity, make

sure that each group is provided with a KWL chart and ask them to fill-out the
Know and Want to Know columns while leaving the Learned blank until they
have finished performing the 20-minute activity.
Each member of the group is given 1 minute to answer the activity and 1 minute to
observe and process his work and the result of his work.
Let a group representative present the final output. Use a rubric to rate the presentation
done.

2. Analysis/Discussion
Ask students the following questions:
How did you find the activity?
Did you have any difficulty while performing the activity? If yes, why?
What have you realized from the activity?
3. Generalization
Show a video/presentation of the Distance Formula on the screen.
Ask students to list down the highlights including the distance formula, sample problems
and solutions then ask the following:
- What is a distance formula?
- What is the standard form of a distance formula?
- How do you solve problems involving distance between two points?
- How do you apply the concept in a real-life situation?
4. Application
Using the same group, flash on screen or hand in to students the story of The
Vegetable Garden.

Ask each group to solve the problem and come up with a solution in 10 minutes
and present it. Use a rubric for problem-solving.
After the presentation, ask:
-What insights can you draw from the story?

IV.

Evaluation
A. Find the distance between the two points.
1. C (0,0) and D (5,2)
2. (5, 6) and ( 12, 40)
B. Solve the problem below using the distance formula:
1. The teaching building of a school is mapped on a coordinate grid with the origin being at
library. Maths building is located at the point (1, 5) and Historys building is located at
(4, 9). How far is it from Maths building to Historys building?

V.

Assignment
The map below shows the location of various points in Helenes town in Isabela City.

1. What is the distance, between the library and the school in Helenes town?
2. On your journal notebook, write your learning experience while solving the problem.
