The industrial revolution was the transition from hand production

methods to machine. This revolution, which happened at the 19th

century in the Great Britain, has affected every single aspect of
peoples everyday lives directly or indirectly. The industrial
revolution promotes industrialization and it led to the creation of
factories. The creation of factory, which was promoted by
industrial revolution, improved the manufacturing process, and
the improvements means that production was increased as the
effect of industrial revolution. The improvement of production
helped the increase of the availability of consumers good, and
this helped the rise of consumerism culture. The rise of
consumerism contributed to the rise of supply, and this everincreasing demand and supply led to the use of machinery for
mass production, not only in the Great Britain, at which it was
originated. However, the effect of industrial revolution is not only
in social aspects or manufacturing process, it also affected the
environment. The rising number of factories, the use of natural
resources, and the increasing number of population caused by
the industrial revolution has led to the depletion of several
natural resources. One of the most clear example of this
depletion is deforestation, which was caused by the use of wood
for production and by the clearing of forest trees to build more
factories. The clearing of forest trees not only affects the trees in
the forest, but also the wildlife in the forest. It is also worsened
by the problem of carbon emission. The forest, which should help
reduce the refresh the level healthy gases in the air and emit
oxygen from carbon monoxide, is being cleared and in exchange
a factory is built, which emits poisonous gases, greenhouse
gases, and eliminating the source of oxygen. Not only that, the
pollution from factories is not just gaseous emission, but also
land and water pollution as well. The primary effect from all the
pollution and poisonous emission is global warming and wildlife
extinction. Although the effects of industrial revolution are
undoubtedly horrible to our environment, it is almost impossible
to cut down all the demands by stopping down the factories and
by doing so, the production. The most feasible solution to all this
problem is by making the industry which does not harm the
future environment. This kind of industry is usually called the
green industry. Green industry, as defined by the United Nations
Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), economies striving
for a more sustainable pathway of growth, by
undertaking green public investments and implementing public
policy initiatives that encourage environmentally responsible
private investments. Because of the limitation of natural
resources and the unsustainability of the usual industry, green
industry should be initiated from now. The green industry is
chosen as the solution to environmental problem which is caused

by the usual industry by cutting down the pollution from the

usual industry while still maintaining high quality products from
the usual industry. Another reason why green industry is the
most feasible way to the environmental problem caused by the
industry because it creates a sustainable production and way of
living, it is beneficial to the both the consumer and the producer,
and it also helps the development of new technologies. However,
green industry raises cost and for some developing countries, the
production cost of green industry is too pricy for the people
there.
As mentioned above, the main reason why green industry should
be initiated everywhere and the already existing industry should
be greened is because production in green industry is more
sustainable than in the usual production. Green industry is also
called as a sustainable industry because it features energy
efficiency, resource conservation, the use of sustainable energy
and materials, low waste production, and the use of
environmentally safe and degradable material. By effectively
using the energy, green industry helps conserve fuel and
allocating it to a better place. Green industry also minimizes the
use of natural resources while maximizes production. Also, green
industry is far more sustainable than the usual industry because
it mainly uses sustainable energy as main energy source and
uses sustainable materials as the production materials, not only
that, green industry is safer than the usual industry because it
uses environmentally safe and degradable materials and it
minimizes pollution. The minimization of harmful chemicals and
waste causes the waste management in green industry more
advanced than in the usual industry, therefore it requires more
employee to handle all the waste produced by the industry. The
demand of people who understand how to deal with pollution
makes the green industry more sustainable, because it helps
creating new employment. The new employment required in the
green industry is not only how to manage pollutant produced as
the side product of a production, but also how to minimizes the
waste of energy, how to use energy efficiently, how to create
environmentally compatible material from natural resources, how
to sustain natural resources, etc. Green industry does not only
include industry which uses energy, materials, and natural
resources efficiently, but it also include industry which uses
waste and pollution as main raw material. This industry has a
very bright prospect in the future because of the increasing
number of industry and factories; therefore, the number of waste
also increases. Another reason why the green industry is more
sustainable than the usual industry is because green industry is
starting to become a trend today. The increasing attractiveness
of green industry is not only because it is a trend, but also

because it enjoys the benevolent public sentiment and

supportive government policies. The greening of industry should
be started from now because of earths ecological limitation and
insufficient environment ability to recover itself while the public
sentiment to green industry is still positive. Greening the
industry is not only beneficial to peoples live nowadays, but it
will also be beneficial to peoples live in the future, thus creating
a sustainable future. By living a sustainable live, people do not
have to worry too much about the future live.
Another reason why green industry should be initiated as soon as
possible is because green industry is very beneficial to the
consumer. The consumer enjoys the benefit of green industry
because the product from green industry is healthier than
product from the normal industry. Green industry is beneficial to
the consumer because by using products from a green industry,
they are actually helping to create a better future living for
themselves and their offspring. Not only that, the products
produced by green industry has an added value because it is
designed to be environmentally safe, therefore it would be safer
for the consumers to consume the products too. Green industry is
also beneficial to the producer, because green industry is
currently enjoying a significant benevolent public sentiment in
several countries (mainly in developed countries); therefore, by
using the green industry label, they are more likely to be chosen
by the consumer. A very clear example is the organic farming
industries. Even though the price of products from organic farm is
slightly higher than the price of products from normal farm, the
market for organic farming product is still increasing. It should be
noted that the green label should not be only a label, but should
actually be produced in an environmentally safe process,
because if the green in the label is only a label, it can be
considered a fraud and the producer can be sued because of
that.
The last reason why green industry should be initiated now is
because the implementation of green strategy in both of the
production and sales of a green product requires a new
technology, which helps the advancement in the modern
technology. Green industry helps the advancement of technology
by indirectly raising the standard of technology. To make a
resource sustainable, the scientific community requires some
kind of scientific breakthrough through research. For example,
the need of new, sustainable, and the eco-friendly energy source
helps the advancement in energy conservation and nanoscience
technology with the creation of solar panel, which utilizes
nanomaterials in their solar cells. These solar cells are not only a

sustainable source of energy, but can also be recycled and

therefore are a very sustainable technology. Another example of
the advancement of technology which is helped by the rise of
green industry is the creation of biodegradable plastic. The
biodegradable plastic may be cheap and is somewhat very
simple looking; however, it is not as simple as it looks because it
requires years of research and a lot of effort to inform people
about them and to replace the usual plastic bags with the
biodegradable ones. Not only that, the effect of biodegradable
plastic in the environment is not as simple as it looks because
unlike its non-biodegradable counterpart, which will take
hundreds of years to be degraded, the biodegradable plastic
only takes some years to be degraded.
However, although the green industry has a very attractive
prospect for the future, not every industry uses the green
industry concept in their manufacturing process. The main
reason for this is the high cost of production in green industry.
Not every corporation has the money to integrate the
environmentally friendly technology in their manufacturing
process, especially corporation from developing countries.
However, this should not be a problem for the corporations
because the first reason why industrialization happens is the
increasing number of demands of people, so if the environment is
damaged, then the number of people will decrease. If the
number of people decreases, then number of demands will also
decrease, thus causing the corporation to be affected in a
negative way. Another reason why high production cause should
not be a reason for some corporation to not integrate the
environmentally friendly technology in their manufacturing
process is because these very advanced technology should be
seen as some kind of investment for the future. The main reason
for this is because of the increasing consciousness of the
government about the condition of the environment will cause
the government to pass some kind of regulation regarding the
manufacturing process and pollution produced as the side
product of a process. By investing their money on the green
industry now, the manufacturing company does not have to
integrate the green process later when the green manufacturing
process machineries would be more expensive than now.
Another reason why some corporations do not integrate the
green manufacturing process is because the green industry does
not have a market in some country, especially in developing
countries. There is no market for green market in some countries
because the cost of production is too high; therefore, the price of
the product is also high. The price of the products is sometimes

too high for the market in developing country, and because of

that, some green industry products do not sell well in some
developing countries. However, this should not be a reason for
some manufacturer to not use environmentally friendly process
in their factories, because it is everyones responsibility to keep
the environment sustainable and viable.
From the paragraphs above it can be concluded that green
industry is a solution for the pollution caused by the old industry;
therefore green industry should be initiated from now because it
promotes sustainability in manufacturing industry, it is beneficial
both for consumer and producer of the industry, and it also helps
the advancement of science and engineering. Some
manufacturer does not use the environmentally friendly
manufacturing process in their factories because the high
production cost in green industry. Another reason is because the
lack of market for green industry in several countries. However,
manufacturers should still integrate environmentally friendly
process in their factories because it is everyones responsibility
to keep the environment safe. In the end, the environment is
everyones responsibility to keep.
