allowing the creation of different work environments
within the same space.
The north and south faades are made by louvered
sliding panels for access. This system allows natural and
indirect illumination of the space, as well as the
circulation and continuous renovation of air.
The ceiling, with its wide eaves, protects the wood
structure from the rain. Another characteristic is the
visibility of the inside of the building, creating an inverted
effect. Usually, buildings consist of an inner space from
which, through windows and doors, one can gaze at the
outside surroundings. In this case, when the panels are
transformed into tables, a big opening is created.
The combination of local materials with modern
construction systems, the active participation and the
input of the community allow the construction of a wide
and functional space in harmony with its surrounding.

The space offers a multifunctional hall with a kitchen

built with local fabricated bricks on the north side, on a
concrete floor. The structure of the building is made of
wood. The side walls are formed by an alternation of
louvered panels and movable colorful panels. These last
ones, with a 90 movement, can be turned into tables,

We seek to use materials that promote dialogue between the various styles present in the project through two strategies:
continuity and contrast. The parquet wood herringbone, hexagonal stoneware tablets, wood countertops and hammered
glass are an interpretation of traditional Bogota style and address an intention of neutrality. On the other hand, in the
contained spaces and divisions we have acted in contrast, implementing the use graphic patterns, metallic materials and
colors that represent the spirit of the new program.

purposefully interferes with and obscures
views to the exterior landscape. The
continuous perforated screen composed of
standard solid brick alternates each coursing,
rotated perpendicular to the row below and
above, recalling the ventilation screens of
mid-century tropical ventilation architecture.
At night the optical relationship is inverted,
the restaurant appears as a glowing lantern,
wrapped within the historic and preserved
colonial building. The perpendicular brick
pattern subtly ungulates in plan, moving in
and out to accommodate existing columns,
openings, and air conditioners. The effect is
a subtle gradation, producing an optical
effect of movement similar to those found in
artists exploring optical effects (Optical Art).
The graphic identity of the restaurant is embossed into
the concrete floor as well as table tops; small details that
produce a cohesive and thoughtful design experience.
The other surfaces, floor, ceiling, kitchen walls are
purposefully minimized in their visual impact, a reductive
design strategy to focus and maximize the impact of the
brick perforated screen.

The relation between interior and exterior spaces defines ways of communication between the
users and the community, as well as strengthening the relation among its users by creating a
social working space. The plan scheme of the building helped to isolate the unfavorable effects
of the surrounding environment, and also, provided openings to the important axis of approach
and existing greenery on the south faade. The building with a courtyard, reminiscent of a caravanserai, is an
interpretation of the cultural heritage of Anatolia is to a contemporary working environment. The courtyard, as one of the
main elements of the design, is configured to make users feel the changing effects of light and sky with dynamic
geometries and material choices.
