MEDIUM VOLTAGE SWITCHGEAR

HE
Distribution surge arresters

In order to provide high quality energy,

utilities must continuously improve their
network’s reliability, which is why over-voltage
protection is of key importance.

With appropriate surge protection, you can

increase service and personnel safety while
reducing system outage costs.

THE RIGHT SURGE ARRESTER

AT THE RIGHT PLACE!

Our HE surge arresters are designed for use in areas with strong lightning
exposure and high pollution levels to ensure over-voltage protection on
overhead medium-voltage networks from 5 to 42 kV.

Based on the latest technology, each surge arrester is manufactured with metal
oxide blocks, a material with non-linear resistance characteristics, enabling to
vary instantaneously from an isolating state to a conductive state in the event of
an over-voltage.

The blocks are mechanically bounded in a reinforced synthetic resin

fiber-glass, encapsulated in a silicone rubber housing to provide the required
insulation withstand.

The HE surge arrester range meets IEC 60099-4 and ANSI/IEEE C62.11
standard requirements.

Customer benefits
• Continuity of service
• Equipment and
personnel safety
• Improved power quality
• Maintenance-free design

BASIC VERSION: TYPE “NO”

This surge arrester is equipped with bolts,

>> Nominal discharge current 10 kA (8/20 impulse)
spring washers and clamps for connection
to transmission lines and the ground. >> High current impulse withstand 100 kA (4/10 impulse)
>> Rated voltage From 5 kV to 42 kV
The following options provide end-of-life
signalling: >> Creepage distance >31mm/kV (level IV as per IEC 60815)
• Disconnector option type “sd”:
>> Energy absorption capability 4.8 kJ per kV of Uc (4/10 impulse)
Automatic disconnecting device (ground
lead) together with an insulating bracket. >> Long duration current 300 A (2 ms impulse)
Sensitivity: 20A / 1s. This option must be
>> Short circuit current withstand 20 kA / 0.2 s – 600 A / 1s
selected when the operator needs to prioritize
service continuity.
• Indicator option type “if”:
Fault current detection module (electronic ACCESSORIES
circuit) which displays a red flag allowing for
easy fault detection. Sensitivity: 10A / 0.5s. • Bracket (NEMA type) for horizontal
This option is recommended when the ope- or vertical mounting on cross arm
rator wants the continuity of protection to • Three phase bracket
