a) In the CB amplifier circuit of Fig.1Q(i), draw the equivalent- circuit and find
(i) voltage gain from the source to output
(ii) voltage gain from emitter to output
(iii)approximate value of Vin

b) Draw the hybrid small-signal model for a transistor in CE configuration. A single
source with an open circuit voltage of 1 mV and internal impedance of 600 is
connected to the input of transistor AC 125 in CE configuration. The small-signal
parameters measured at VCB 5V and I E 2 mA , are as follows:
hie 1.7 k, h fe 125, hre 6.5 104 , hoe 80 S . Calculate the input and output

impedances and signal amplification for a load of 5.6 k . Also find the value of the
signal voltage at the output.

c) State and explain any three SCR ratings.

a) With the aid of a well labeled diagram, explain the reverse characteristics of SCR.

b) The 2N 682 SCR is subjected to 40 A surge that lasts for 15 ms. Determine whether
or not tis surge will destroy the device. The circuit fusing rating of the device is

c) A unijuction transistor used for triggering the silicon controlled rectifier has
rB1 4 k and rB2 2.5k . Find
(i) the value of intrinsic stand-off ratio
(ii) the peak-point voltage, if VBB 15V

d) State the any five applications of a TRIAC.

Question Three (20 marks)


a) Explain the following types of feedback:
(i) Positive feedback
(ii) Negative feedback

b) State any four advantages and one disadvantage of negative feedback

[5 marks]

c) An amplifier with negative feedback gives an output of 12.5 V with and input of 1.5
V. When feedback is removed, it requires 0.25 V input for the same output. Find
(i) value of voltage gain without feedback
(ii) value of , if the input and output are in phase and is real.

d) An amplifier with current series feedback has the form shown in Fig. 3Q(d). the
transistor has hie 2 k, h fe 100 . Calculate the values of voltage gain and input
resistances of the amplifier with and without feedback.

Question Four (20 marks)


a) A transistor used in a common base amplifier has the following values of hparameters: hib 28 , h fb 0.98, hrb 5 104 , hob 0.34 106 S . Calculate the
values of
(i) input resistance
(ii) output resistance
(iii)current gain and
(iv) voltage gain
Take the load resistance as 1.2 k and assume sources resistance as zero. [9 marks]
b) Explain the four differences between SCR and Triac.

c) The h-parameter and beta are two approaches of obtaining the equivalent circuits for
transistors. State three disadvantages of h-parameter approach and two advantages of
beta approach.

a) What is the effect of emitter bypass capacitor on voltage gain of an amplifier?

b) For the circuit shown in Fig. 5Q(b), find (i) rin (ii) rL (iii) Av (iv) Ap (v) G p with and
