ELECTRICAL CALCULATION CRITERIA

Electrical installation calculations are based on the laws of physics and are sorted according
to the criteria more known and recommended by groups of engineers in electrical
installations and university campuses.
Calculations in circuits of the three-phase system of 480/277 Volts, to look more to the
voltage received in machinery were made in 460/266 Volts, value that will be referred to
from this point.
In electrical power, electrical loads are grouped:
As a first option, in Watts
As a second option, Volt-amp (VA)
Current calculations are performed in amp, according to method of the infinite BUS
Formula for three-phase system:
Amps = Watts / (3 * nominal voltage between phases * power factor)
Formula for single phase system:
Amps = Watts / nominal voltage neutral * power factor
Power factor considered in this project is 0.85

Calculations for voltage losses (e)

By multiplying current by resistance, resulting in this product of unit value of resistance by
the conductor length.
Formula for three-phase system:
Lost volts = amps * circuit meters * single conductor resistance / 1000
Formula for single phase system:
Lost volts = 2 * amp * circuit meters * single conductor resistance / 1000
Received voltage
Initial voltage referenced with at least neutral voltage voltage lost
Calculations of voltage (%R)
Referencing in per cent lost voltage nominal voltage neutral (e)
Formula for three phase and single phase system
%R = lost Volts / nominal voltage neutral * 100
Loss of power
Power to the square by resistance
Calculations with applications (Apps)
The described calculations have been captured in Excel apps of own design
The electric circuits of the installation are defined by referring to those applications

The SKF Zapopan project solution to system 460 Volts
Discussed the application of factors permitted by NOM-001 and recommended by
application of engineering
Behaviour of demand readings were taken at another power plant of similar characteristics
Reviewed historical measurements of CFE billing on another floor, comparing them with
the installed
It is reasonable to obtain demand considerably less than the arithmetic sum of the installed
load. By demand reduction will notice where grows the amount of machinery and
equipment installed
The order would be as follows:
Greatly reduced by application of demand in transformer and main feeder circuit
When applying moderate reduction demand in feeder circuit leaving the main Board
To attach both projects, a new Board called TG is designed, it receives to the feeder circuit
coming 2,000 KVA transformer. This Board with 3,500 amp bars and enough space (3

sections) to accommodate the majority of circuits that connect to the floor boards, complete
a circuit to connect to the TG1 Board
The SKF Zapopan project uses some spaces TG1 Board to connect plant equipment
The SKF Zapopan project uses some spaces TG2 Board to connect plant equipment
TG dash is projected to locate it in position designed for TG1 Board, by moving to this
where is located the TG2 Board
The plan of the unifilar diagram at 460 Volts shows technical information of this
arrangement
Once entering into operation the plant, throughout this installation should be be monitored
permanently

CALCULATION OF SHORT CIRCUIT
For the calculation of short-circuit currents, is a dedicated calculation memory so
The calculation is made for three-phase, as the fault failure more demanding upon the
occurrence of a short circuit:

The method of calculation developed in this project is based on established rules of the
Algebra and the laws of physics, in its branch of electricity
It is to consider the behavior of the circuit under the so-called short circuit in a system of
two linear equations with two unknowns, system which has well-documented the rules to
solve the
Based on the law of Kirchhof meshes, there are two equations in two different points:
Where electric power is received
At the point of calculation of short circuit current
The two unknowns of the system are:

The algebraic solution of the system States that the calculated short circuit current:
It affects inversely by two linear addends
The inverse of resultant Thvenin circuit current
Installation circuit voltage/resistance trade-off
There is application of Excel's own design for the result. The application displays the results
on the same sheet where you have the feeder circuit calculations
Results sheet, is delivered comparing the rated capacity of the switch according to the
catalogue of the manufacturer, to compare it with the value obtained in the calculation.
Ideally the switch capacity should exceed pos if single calculated value, or failing to ask
opinion specialists in the subject to determine if some additional elements will help
determine the rated switch capacity exceeds the calculated value
