CAMPAR

We will start out with opening the CAMPAR program. When the program is
installed on the hard drive of the computer, an icon will be placed on the desktop for
you to open the program.

NOTE: You can use this presentation to teach the CAMPAR 2003A software or
you can use the program off of your own machine. In that case, you will need to
have an example to be able to show the students.

After clicking on the icon, this window appears for just a few seconds. This shows
the Version of CAMPAR you are running.

Immediately after the Version screen, the program starts to open by giving you a
Disclaimer screen that you must either Accept or Decline in order to
proceed.
If you click on Decline, the program closes.
Click on Accept to continue with CAMPAR.

After accepting the Disclaimer screen, you will get this screen.
As you can see, you have several choices:
Run a PAR test
Print blank forms with specifications
Modify or update the databases
Alter general options
Help with CAMPAR
Exit
Lets click on Database Functions.

When we click on the Database Function option, we get this screen.

It has options for entering the databases. The first is the Customer database. Or
you could go to the Transmission database or the Vessel database. You can return to
the Main Menu by using the last choice which is a Back function key.
Now, lets click on the Customer option.

When we click on the Customer option, we get this screen and we can start to
enter data or select a customer from the database.
As we can see in this example, there are no customers in the database. It is a new
program.
So, lets fill in the information.
The green asterisks are information for the Search field. The more information
you can fill in, the better for searching.

We have now filled in the needed information and will click on the ADD option.

Once, weve clicked on Add, this screen appears which shows that the customer
has been added to the database.
Click OK to continue.

We now see the customer information that has been added to the customer database.
With data now in the database, we could Update - Search - Delete - Clear - Add
New or Back out of the database.
The Clear Key clears the customer Information data fields only, for the option to
add a new customer record.
Lets click Back to continue.

When you click on Back, this screen pops up asking if you want to save your
changes.
Well click on Yes.

After clicking Yes, this screen appears showing your record has been updated.
Click OK to continue.

Once youve clicked OK, were back at the Database Function menu.
Next, lets take a look at the Transmission database.

Here we have opened the Transmission database and you can see that we have
two search fields available.
One is the Manufacturer the other is Model.
From here we can also Add a New transmission - Clear - Search - Delete Update - or go back to the previous screen.

If we click on the Search button, the Search Results window becomes active to
show the transmissions that were loaded into the program when it was developed.
Typing in transmission information into the fields and clicking the ADD NEW
button will create a new record which is then added to the Transmission Database.

Now that weve seen the Transmission database screen, lets go back to the
Database Functions menu.
To do this, click on Back.

We are back at the Database Functions screen.

Now lets look at the Vessel database function.

Here you can see the screen for the Vessel database.
Notice, we have three fields that we can search on: Vessel Name - Builder - Engine
Serial Number.

If you click on the various pull down menu arrows, you can see what is in those
sections of the database.
Here we have clicked on the Customer field and selected the customer Barb
Fechter which now shows in the window.
We could also search for another customer.
Lets fill in the rest of the information.

Once you have filled in the fields of the database, click ADD to continue.
Of course you could also CLEAR - Delete - Search - Update - or return - BACK to
the previous screen from here as well.

This screen shows that the vessel has been added to the database.
Click OK to continue.

Clicking OK brings you back to the Vessel Database screen. Notice again, you
can Add Clear Delete Search Update or go Back.
We click Back to return to the Database Function menu.

We have now gone through all of the databases.

We will now click on Back if there are no questions.

This returns us to the Main Menu for the CAMPAR program, as seen here.
This time lets take a look at the menus under the button for Options which will
allow us to Alter general options.

The first screen we see under the CAMPAR Options button is the General tab
that will let us select whether we want to input data in metric or U.S. units and get
our reports in metric or U.S. units. To make this selection, you click on the radial
button for the choice you want. Here we see that the choice is for US units.
There is also a space for the Technicians Name.

By clicking on the DEALER tab at the top of the menu we will get this
information box. It will need to be filled in.

Once all of the information is filled in, click Apply.

The last menu option on this screen is the DISCLAIMER tab.

If we click on this TAB at the top of the menu, we will see that there is already a
disclaimer in the program. This is a default disclaimer. You may use this disclaimer,
delete it, or add to it. The choice is up to the dealership as to how they want to
handle this type of situation.
When you have completed this screen, click on APPLY to save your changes and
take you back to the Main Menu for CAMPAR. If you choose the close button, it
will bring up the next screen.

When you have competed making your changes and /or additions, click Close at
the bottom of the screen.
Clicking on Close brings up a pop-up screen as seen here.
You can save the changes you have made by selecting YES.
Select NO if you do not want to save your changes.
Well click Yes to continue.

Clicking either Yes or No returns you to the Main Menu.

The next option on the Main Menu is the HELP screen option.
Lets click on this option to take a look at the on-line help.

This option is very similar to other computer programs that utilize an on-line HELP
menu. We will not spend a lot of time on this option. I just wanted to point out the
fact that you can get help if needed in the program.

This leaves us with only two other working options (RUN TEST - PRINT). The last
option is the EXIT button, which simply exits the software.
Lets enter the Print Blank Forms menu.

When we click on the Print Blank Forms option on the Main Menu, we get this
window. At this point, we will need an engine serial number to fill in the requested
field.
NOTE: CAMPAR accepts only Caterpillar serial number formats

I put in a serial number for an engine and the database makes a search for it.
CAMPAR located a Performance Specification Number (Test Spec) for that serial
number engine. The program asks if I want to continue with that test spec.
In this case, lets say Yes.

This brings up the screen seen here that allows us to print off any or all of the
options shown here PRETEST INFORMATION - FUEL RATE TABLE - PAR
TEST DATA SHEET.
Once I have selected the desired form(s) by clicking in the box, I can print these
forms by selecting the Print Forms option at the bottom of the screen or I can return
to the Main Menu which is the option we will take here.
NOTE: If you are teaching this software and are using the software connected to a
printer then you might want to demonstrate this option at this time.

The last option, and the one we will use the most, is - RUN A PAR TEST. So lets
click on this last remaining button and see what happens.

We now have 3 options to choose from. We can save a New Test Load Old Test or Manual data entry into CAMPAR.
Save a New Test is selected when you are bringing in data from Sea Trial Data
Logger used with Electronic Technician (ET).
Load an Old Test (previously saved from Sea Trial Data Logger in ET) is used to
open a test that has already been stored in CAMPAR.
Lets manually enter data into CAMPAR.

Click to Continue

Click the radial button in front of Manual entry.

Click on Next.

This brings up the screen which gives you three options -- NEW TEST ALTER
EXISTING TEST REVIEW EXISTING TEST.
Lets click on New Test.

When we click on run a new PAR test, we will get the screen shown here. At this
point we select the engine make - CATERPILLAR - and input the serial number for
the engine we want to test.
NOTE: Currently there are no Sea Trial specifications for the MAK engines

Entering the serial number, we get a confirmation screen that gives us the
performance specification number the software located for our serial number. If this
is correct, we would select YES.

Additional Information

Once we have selected the performance specification number, we a window opened

that says no record is found. Please search again or add new vessel information.
Also, notice that once we have made the performance specification number
selection, we start seeing additional information appearing at the bottom of the
CAMPAR screen.

We did a Search and highlighted the vessel we were looking for. Now we click
Next to continue.

When we select our vessel and click on Next, we will get this Pre-Test data screen
that we will need to fill in.
Notice that the SPEC data is filled in. This is brought in when you select you
engine serial number and test spec number.
Lets fill in the Pre-test Information. This is the Actual data that you have
collected.

Weve filled in all of the information that we have.

Click Next to continue.

When we click on the next button, we get this window. It is telling us that the PreTest data shows us that the fuel setting and the low idle speed are out of range. It is
warning us that if we continue with this test, the analysis may be in error due to this
problem.
It asks if we want to continue - Yes or No. Lets say YES.

By clicking YES, we will get the screen shown here. This screen is where we will
input our Engine RPM - Fuel Rate - Boost Pressure we recorded during the PAR
test.

Here we have filled in the data requested and have the options at the bottom of the
screen to select from - BACK - Print Clear - Next.
Click Next to continue.

After clicking Next, we get a graph of the ACTUAL boat test data and the
Specification. Notice that the scales were automatically selected based upon the
input data and the specifications.
From here we can also print the graph, modify the points on the graph or continue
on to the next screen.
Lets continue on to the NEXT screen.

The next screen has TABS for the various systems across the top of the page. We
will now need to start filling in the information that we recorded from the boat test
into the appropriate slots.
NOTE: You can move between the various engine systems using the NEXT key or
by selecting the Engine System TAB at the top of the page.

Our first system is the aftercooler system. Once we have filled in the information we
collected during our PAR test, we will click on the Next key and move to the next
engine system - AIR SYSTEM.
Notice that some of these fields are required (red asterisk) for CAMPAR to do a
proper analysis. Others are less important (desired) but still needed for CAMPAR to
do an in depth analysis (blue asterisk). Any fields with the yellow asterisk are
optional and not included in the analysis. The more fields that can be filled in, the
better the analysis.

Once we have it filled in, we will move on to the next system which is the CK crankcase.
Remember, you can either select Next or the tab at the top of the screen.

From the Crankcase, we move on to the LUBE oil system.

From the lube oil system, we will go to the Exhaust system

From the exhaust system, we will go to the FUEL system

After we input the data for the FUEL system, we will move on to the Jacket Water
system.

However, before we can move on to the jacket water system, this screen shows up
after we clicked on Next.
Notice that Fuel Pump Inlet Restriction (961) has a red asterisk next to it. This
means it is required to do analysis for the Fuel system.
If you have overlooked the information, you can click Yes and enter the
information now.
If you did not get the information, click No to continue.
Remember, if you dont get the information during the PAR, dont make something
up.
We are going to click No since we dont have the information requested.

Now we can enter the information for the jacket water system.
Once we have input all of the Jacket Water information, we will move on to the
Marine Gear.

After the Marine Gear information, we will go to the RPM section.

With the RPM section, the information is already filled in when we open it up. This
information came from the PRE-TEST data section. We do have the option of
putting in our minimum engine rpm during a reversal test if we ran that test. Since
we did not run that test, we will leave that data field blank.
Now, well click on Next to go the last system into which we need to enter data.

The last data fields to input are for the Raw Water system on the engine.
Once we have that information filled in, we will click on the Next key.

We now have the opportunity to add any additional comments or observations we

may have noticed on the boat. We have 5 TABS across the top of the screen: PAR
TEST DATA - ENGINE PERFORMANCE - ENGINE LUBRICATION COOLING SYSTEM - GENERAL.
Since we have nothing to add in these areas, we will continue with the NEXT key
again at the bottom of the page.

This loads the report on the vessel that we just input.

We can see that we have the Disclaimer that we wrote or, as here, we have the
Default copy of the disclaimer.
Next is the General Information. We can see this information by scrolling down
the window using the scroll bar on the right of the screen.

This General Information is the data that we input during the setup of the
customer database.

If we scroll down, we will see the Pre-Test information and the Engine
Performance information.

Continuing to scroll down, we get the Fuel System, RPM, Boost, and
Lubrication System information.

This is the information for the Cooling System, Raw Water System, Crankcase
System, and the Exhaust System.
Notice that each of the systems have an area for additional comments to be written
in by the Marine Analyst.

CAMPAR will also give you a report on the Air System, the Aftercooler
System and the Marine Gear System.

The last section of the report is General Comments. As the title indicates, this
section is for the Marine Analyst to add any additional information that he feels is
important and should be included in the written report.
Following the General Comments section, there is a section for signatures --Owner Builder/Installer Marine Analyst.
After reviewing and editing the report, the marine analyst can Print the report by
using the Print button. Or he can go back into the report comments by clicking on
the BACK button. Or he can return to the Main Menu by clicking on that
button.
For this presentation, we will use the Main Menu button.

When we click on the Main Menu button, we are asked if were sure this is what
we want to do.
We will say YES to this question.

That will bring us back to this (by now) familiar screen.

Any questions?
