Operation of the Combo Rig (Vac Con) requires a 2-person crew (3-persons
required in heavy traffic areas).
Lower the suction tubing rack by removing the locking pin and holding the
handle while you place the switch in the RAKE DOWN position. This will
activate the pneumatic assist cylinders to help lower the rack. Remove the
required length of suction tubing from the truck.
Connect sections of suction tubing together by using the quick release tube
clamps.
Once the tubing is connected, lift by hand and install into manhole. Make the
final connection to the flexible vacuum hose and test the assembled unit to
ensure all joints are tight and vacuum unit is operating correctly. Place vacuum
switch in the On position, ensure rear drain is closed and debris tank is empty.

Determine the nozzle to be used based on the required cleaning operation and
pipe conditions. Attach nozzle to the high pressure hose, lower into manhole
and face into the upstream pipe. Adjust sock (Tiger Tail) to protect high
pressure hose.
Install trap to cover downstream pipe and collect grit and debris to facilitate
better removal with the vacuum tubing.
Start the high pressure flow increasing RPM until the pressure reaches 1500 to
3000 PSI and run the hose upstream at a safe pace bringing it back slowly so
nozzle action can clean the pipe by pushing grit and debris downstream to your
manhole structure. Observe the color of the water. You will notice an odor if
grit and /or grease are present and see the water turn black. Run section as
many times as it takes to clean it.
When cleaning older pipes with more mature tree growth, use Warthog nozzle.
Advance the nozzle at a slow pace up the pipe and withdraw watching for the
amount of debris, roots, grease and grit removed.

For drop manholes use debris grabber to assist getting the hose into the raised
pipe segment.
If there is enough debris to require removal, use the vacuum unit. Begin
vacuuming approximately 50-feet before jetter hose is removed. Listen for grit
in the suction tubing and operate vacuum only as long as grit/debris in being
removed. You want to remove as much grit and debris as possible but not fill
your tank with excess water. Small amounts of debris may be flushed
downstream as you continue to clean.
Once you have cleaned the pipe, rewind the pressure hose and return the reel
assembly to the locked travel position.
Remove the vacuum tubing and store in racks. If you are only moving a short
distance tubing sections may be left connected as long as they can be securely
held in-place attached to the rack. Check for power lines or overhead
obstruction.
Use the hand wand to wash down the walls, frame and cover, clean seat area
then close. Apply a small patch of tar (manhole cover sealer) to manhole ring to
prevent rocking or rattling and cover manhole.

If traffic control requires adjustment for the next setup, pick up the cones and
reset the taper.

If dewatering the vacuum tank is required, release attached hose to drain valve
and decant as much liquid as possible into the downstream manhole.
When the vacuum tank requires emptying, dewater the tank to downstream
manhole. Return to maintenance yard to empty grit and debris.
To dump the grit and debris, release the tailgate and slowly raise the holding
tank into bin. Move truck to wash area and hose out the tank, drain valve and
tail gate section. Wash other areas as needed. Use Scentrol odor control for
odor problems.
Contact SOCWA treatment plant for grit disposal. The SOCWA treatment
plant disposes of contents in bin.
On Thursday, move truck to the wash rack and hose out the tank, drain valve
and tail gate sections. Wash other areas of the truck as required.
